DID YOU KNOW YOUR RISK OF DEATH FROM COVID-19 IS HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON YOR AGE? IN PARTICULAR, FOR THOSE UNDER 30, THE RISK IS ONE IN THOUSANDS, FOR THOSE UNDER 50, THE RISK STILL AVERAGES ONE IN THOUSANDS. ONLY FOR THE OVER 60'S DOES THE RISK EXCEED ONE PERCENT.

Governmental sources are remarkable cagey about providing clear information on this vital fact. Why? Surely, so the public does not challenge the lunacy of shutting schools and businesses.

For greater clarity on the age effect, here are statistics from the Province of Ontario Canada showing the estimated Province-wide Covid-19 infection fatality rate by age until May 19, 2020. 

What the data show is that:

Among children nine years of age or younger the estimated risk of death from Covid-19 is 0.002%, or one in  50,000.

For other age groups the estimated Infection Fatality Rates (IFR) are:

But those numbers are based on reported cases, which totaled only 0.25% of the population. The actual number of cases will certainly have been greater than the number of reported cases and probably many times greater. Moreover, it is reasonable to suppose that cases proving fatal were more likely to have come to the attention of the Medical authorities than non-fatal cases. It is certain, therefore, that the actual infection fatality rates were lower, and probably much lower, than those indicated above.

The New York Times column the New York Times didn’t want anyone to read

Last weekend, New York Times columnist Bret Stephens wrote a piece criticizing the rationale behind the forced ouster of Times reporter Donald G. McNeil Jr., but it was never published. Stephens told colleagues the column was killed by publisher A.G. Sulzberger. Since then, the piece has circulated among Times staffers and others — and it was from one of them, not Stephens himself, that The Post obtained it. We publish his spiked column here in full.

Every serious moral philosophy, every decent legal system and every ethical organization cares deeply about intention.

It is the difference between murder and manslaughter. It is an aggravating or extenuating factor in judicial settings. It is a cardinal consideration in pardons (or at least it was until Donald Trump got in on the act). It’s an elementary aspect of parenting, friendship, courtship and marriage.

A hallmark of injustice is indifference to intention. Most of what is cruel, intolerant, stupid and misjudged in life stems from that indifference. Read accounts about life in repressive societies — I’d recommend Vaclav Havel’s “Power of the Powerless” and Nien Cheng’s “Life and Death in Shanghai” — and what strikes you first is how deeply the regimes care about outward conformity, and how little for personal intention.

India Achieves Covid Herd Immunity With Mortality of One in Five Thousand

 India, is reported to have achieved Covid herd immunity, with about half the population, or just under seven hundred million people, having Covid19-specific antibodies. That means India is essentially finished with Covid as a national disaster. 

Covid deaths recorded in India total 155,000, indicating a Covid19 infection fatality rate of around one in 5000.  That is around one tenth of the rates reported in Europe and North America. That difference reflects, at least in part, the steep age-dependence of Covid mortality and a difference in population age profile. India has fewer than 6% of its population aged over 60 versus around 26% in Europe and North America. 

In addition, the European and North American infection fatality rates are undoubtedly greatly exaggerated due to underestimation of the infection rate, which is based on reported cases, not population-wide antibody surveys.  

The inference is clear: The Western states have totally mishandled the epidemic. The virus should have been allowed to spread among the young and resilient, while the elderly should have been given every means to isolate themselves — if they so chose. And it should be emphasized that isolation of the elderly should have been entirely voluntary. At the age of 75 plus, why should one not take a 10% risk of dying a year or two prematurely due to Covid, rather than being locked up for much, or perhaps all, of the rest of one's life?

What the response of the Western nations to Covid19 demonstrates is either remarkably poor judgement in government, or a conspiracy to undermine Western economies and crush the spirit of the people.

Covid19: Vaccination and the Risk of Antibody Dependent Enhancement

The infection fatality rate for Covid19 has a strong age dependency. Young people have a negligible risk of death from Covid19. Those over 70 have a better than 10% risk of death from the disease. Such a steep age dependency means that rational assessment of the balance between the cost and benefit of vaccination is strongly age dependent.

For the young, with a negligible risk of death from Covid infection, the risk of accepting an untested vaccine with unknown adverse effects may seem unreasonably high, whereas for the old, if they wish to prolong what little remains of their lives, the possibility of negative effects beyond the immediate future will be of little concern.

One obvious potential adverse effect of Covid vaccines now being administered, is antibody dependent enhancement, or ADE, the enhancement in question being of viral infectivity and pathogenicity. 

Based on experience with other vaccines, ADE arises on exposure not to the viral strain against which a vaccine has been developed, but exposure to different strains of the same virus. The emergence now reported of multiple new Covid19 strains thus creates precisely the conditions that might lead to ADE and hence severe illness or death among those vaccinated.

The recent imposition of stricter travel restrictions in Britain, Canada and elsewhere, with a view to restricting the spread of new viral strains surely reflects realization, rather late in the day, that pushing population-wide use of untested vaccines for a disease that, in young people, is less lethal than flu, and of unknown efficacy in old people, could be the recipe for a huge covid ADE disaster. Such risk may explain this newspaper headline:

which headline might suggest maneuvering by SAGE "experts" (none of whom is a well qualified immunologist) to put the blame on BoJo if their direction of the epidemic response turns out to be a  disaster.

Johnson, of course, invited disaster by haqving a bunch of outsiders to serve in an advisory capacity, people, that is, who will immediately point the finger of blame at him when things go wrong. He should, obviously, have relied on the civil service, which surely not only have, collectively, at least as much intelligence as the weird crew of liars, adulterers, and Covid-lockdown rule breakers he has assembled under the wildly misleading acronym, SAGE, but also the knowledge that to bad-mouth the government will result in severe disciplinary action, up to and including ouster from the cosy and well-paid-for-life world of government service.

Understanding your risk from Covid19

Out there in the quagmire of the Internet Covid controversy, Ron Unz remains insistent on the deadly peril of covid, asserting that:

... research—examining deaths out of the total number of infections, which includes unreported cases—suggests that Covid-19 kills from around 0.3% to 1.5% of people infected. 

Thus stated, without qualification,  covid mortality rates will be taken to refer to the population as a whole, which is an entirely false inference. 

Covid mortality is hugely age-dependent, so infection fatality rates are meaningless as a basis for assessing personal risk.

If you are under 21, your risk is of death from Covid19 is substantially less than the risk of being killed in a motor vehicle accident. If you are over 75, your risk of death from Covid19 is 10% or more. 

There's another factor that massively distorts understanding of the Covid mortality risk, and that is the prevalence of infection among different groups.

A study conducted in UK care homes revealed that as early as April 2020, 40% of investigated care home residents and 21% of staff were Covid19 antibody positive. These rates, which are vastly higher than national rates at the time (almost certainly less than 5%), mean that  UK care homes were death traps for the most vulnerable, and accounted for a large majority of the UK's total Covid death toll. 

Take these facts into consideration and it is evident that talking of population-wide IFRs is either foolish nonsense or deliberate misdirection. 

In Canada, for example, as of October, 2020, 73% of all Covid 19 deaths were of care home residents.  

Covid is not a world-destroying pandemic, but rather, whether launched deliberately or by chance, a mechanism for saving both the UK's bloated National Health Service from collapse under its own monstrous weight, and the profits of the US Healthcare insurers. This it is doing by ridding the world of the most useless and expensive eaters. 

Young people mostly understand all of this, which is why they don't give a bleep about lockdowns and resent the cowardice of school teachers and university faculty who won't show up and teach.

Mises Institute, January 21, 2021: Although advocates for covid-19 lockdowns continue to insist that they save lives, actual experience keeps suggesting otherwise.

On a national level, just eyeballing the data makes this clear. Countries that have implemented harsh lockdowns shouldn’t expect to have comparatively lower numbers of covid-19 deaths per million.

In Italy and the United Kingdom, for example, where lockdowns have been repeatedly imposed, death totals per million remain among the worst in the world. Meanwhile, in the United States, states with with the most harsh lockdown rules—such as New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts are among the states with the worst total deaths.

Lockdown advocates, of course, are likely to argue that if researchers control for a variety of other variables, then we’re sure to see that lockdowns have saved millions of lives. Yet research keeps showing us this simply isn’t the case.

The latest study to show the weakness of the prolockdown position appeared this month in the European Journal of Clinical Investigation, authored by Eran Bendavid, Christopher Oh, Jay Bhattacharya, and John P.A. Ioannidis.

That January 6 attempt by so-called insurrectionists to overturn the election results was not the real coup, however. Those who answered President Trump’s call to march on the Capitol were merely the fall guys, manipulated into creating the perfect crisis for the Deep State—a.k.a. the Police State a.k.a. the Military Industrial Complex a.k.a. the Techno-Corporate State a.k.a. the Surveillance State—to swoop in and take control.

It took no time at all for the switch to be thrown and the nation’s capital to be placed under a military lockdown, online speech forums restricted, and individuals with subversive or controversial viewpoints ferreted out, investigated, shamed and/or shunned.

This new order didn’t emerge into being this week, or this month, or even this year, however.

Indeed, the real coup happened when our government “of the people, by the people, for the people” was overthrown by a profit-driven, militaristic, techno-corporate state that is in cahoots with a government “of the rich, by the elite, for the corporations.”

CNN announced that Trump was “ isolated and wallowing in self-pity in the White House” as he awaited trial, and even possible imprisonment. The possibility that some part of the claims of fraud in the election might have grounds in fact, that some conspiracies about COVID19 are real, did not cross anyone’s mind.

It is true that hostile forces have taken control of Washington D.C.

But they were not wearing MAGA red hats or waving Confederate flags. No, the takeover was at a much higher level.

ASSESSING MANDATORY STAY-AT-HOME AND BUSINESS CLOSURE EFFECTS ON THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 (Or LOCKDOWNS DON'T W0RK)

The following is from the Summary of an article by John Ionnidis et al. of Stanford University that has been accepted for publication in the European Journal of Clinical Observation.

[We] fail to find strong evidence supporting a role for more restrictive non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) in the control of COVID in early 2020,” the study concludes. “We do not question the role of all public health interventions, or of coordinated communications about the epidemic, but we fail to find an additional benefit of stay-at-home orders and business closures. The data cannot fully exclude the possibility of some benefits. However, even if they exist, these benefits may not match the numerous harms of these aggressive measures. More targeted public health interventions that more effectively reduce transmissions may be important for future epidemic control without the harms of highly restrictive measures.
 
In the framework of this analysis, there is no evidence that more restrictive non-pharmaceutical interventions (“lockdowns”) contributed substantially to bending the curve of new cases in England, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, or the United States in early 2020,” they write. “By comparing the effectiveness of NPIs on case growth rates in countries that implemented more restrictive measures with those that implemented less restrictive measures, the evidence points away from indicating that more restrictive NPIs provided additional meaningful benefit above and beyond less restrictive NPIs. While modest decreases in daily growth (under 30%) cannot be excluded in a few countries, the possibility of large decreases in daily growth due to more restrictive NPIs is incompatible with the accumulated data.”

The direction of the effect size in most scenarios point towards an increase in the case growth rate, though these estimates are only distinguishable from zero in Spain (consistent with non-beneficial effect of lockdowns),” the study continues. “Only in Iran do the estimates consistently point in the direction of additional reduction in the growth rate, yet those effects are statistically indistinguishable from zero. While it is hard to draw firm conclusions from these estimates, they are consistent with a recent analysis that identified increase transmission and cases in Hunan, China during the period of stay-at-home orders from increased intra-household density and transmission.In other words, it is possible that stay-at-home orders may facilitate transmission if they increase person-to-person contact where transmission is efficient such as closed spaces.

 This is a deeply obscure Government report, which however, reaches a startling conclusion. It is estimates that something like half the "Quality Adjusted Life Years" or QALY's, lost in the UK as a result of Covid19 will have been due to, not the illness caused by the virus, but the adverse effects of either lockdowns or Covid-related changes in the healthcare system.

Taken together with the findings of Ioannides and others (see above), it would seem to have been better had governments done nothing whatever in response to the Covid pandemic, as was the case in Sweden, at least until the government was panicked into an interventionist policy. This conclusion will, of course, never be acknowledged in view of the harm to human welbeing, not to mention the astronomical economic cost, due to actions already taken by most Western governments. 

America's Fake Democracy, Or Why Trump's Rule Must End

Democracies have been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death. James Madison

America is not a democracy, never has been and was never intended to be. America is an oligarchy: originally an oligarchy of rich owners of land and slaves, but today an oligarchy largely of the chiefs of the civilian and military security agencies in collaboration with tech billionaires, the corporate media, and the educational bureaucracies. 

It is true that the legislative branch of government is elected, but in the election of the upper house, or Senate, the US Constitution gives equal representation not to each citizen, but to each state. Thus, in Senate elections, the vote of each of Wyoming's 582 thousand residents counts for as much as the votes of 70 of California's 40 million residents. 

Such inequality was fully intended by the Framers of the American Constitution. Allocating an equal number of Senate seats to each state ensured dominance of the Senate by representatives of the land- and slave-owning class versus representatives of industrialized states with rapidly growing blue-collar populations.

Today, by virtue of the absence of campaign finance limits, electoral bias in favor of the property owning class remains, even as the nature of the property owned has changed (although perhaps not as much as might appear, Bill Gates being reportedly largest farmland owner in America). 

Moreover, campaign finance is only one of many ways in which the Money Power influences the outcome of US elections. Of obvious importance in this respect are the news media controlled by a handful of giant corporations, whose chief function it is to catapult elite propaganda. 

There is, in addition, a new election-determining factor closely allied with the Money Power, namely, the great state bureaucracies, in particular the "education" establishment and the agencies of national security. 

The prime function of the "education" establishment is to brainwash the masses, the main object being to render them submissive to the government directives and slogans of the day, whether they be to promote the wearing of face masks, contempt for Christianity, or belief in the whiteness of racism. 

The functions of the agencies of national security are more complex but include the creation of narratives necessary to rationalize criminal wars of aggression, the suppression of populist movements at home, and the orchestration of regime change operations both at home and abroad.

These elements — the Money Power, the mass media, the educational establishment and agencies of national security, seem to provide the American oligarchy with immense stability. But the fake democracy adopted by the Framers of America's Constitution as a necessary evil, an evil that was intended to be circumvented by the various means of top-down control of the public mind, exposes the oligarchy to a great threat. It is the threat of the demagogue: the silver-tongued charismatic genius who can emerge at any time, but who in all cases prior to 2016 have been successfully eliminated: Huey Long, for example, shot, so it is believed, by an aggrieved loner; JFK and RFK, shot by aggrieved loners, or so one to expected to believe; or Governor Wallace, shot by an aggrieved loner, or so one is expected to believe; or Martin Luther King, shot by unknown assassins.

But the elimination of charismatic political interlopers by the hand of lone nuts or unknown assassins, has given rise to widely held conspiracy theories that a have shaken faith in the integrity of the ruling elites. What then to do? Why rig the 2020 election and turn a triumphant Trump landslide into a humiliating defeat at the hands of a tottering 78-year-old who heads a clan of thieves. 

Fortunately, many will think, Trump accepted the humiliation of a fabricated defeat rather than launch Civil War II. But America's model of government is broken, and with it America's educational system, which is now seriously corrupt. Neither credibility of the political system and media nor the effectiveness of the educational system can restored without a massive reform. Such reform would have to include:

(1) A commitment to truth not propaganda and the recognition and reward of merit in education, which means the rooting out of political correctness in all its manifestations;

(2) A breakup of the corporate media monopolies and their replacement by a free press, which is to say  a press of many independent voices. 

(3) A revision to the franchise including: (a) lifting the voting age from 18 to something like 31, by which time the average citizen may have at least some slight grasp of what constitutes good government; and (b) denying the vote to public servants, welfare recipients, and non-tax-paying citizens.

(4) The institution of election-day, in-person-only voting with paper ballots counted by hand in full public view.  

But if, as is safe to assume, no such reforms occur, the US will continue on course for a Soviet-style implosion and break-up, with Joe Biden, perhaps, playing the role of the hapless Gorbachev, and Donald Trump haranguing the crowd from atop an MI Abrams battle tank — its 105 mm M68 gun pointed at the Oval Office Window — playing the role of Yeltsin.

Many are aware of the Apollo at Delphi inscription and associate it as words of wisdom, after all, the Temple at Delphi was at the center of global intelligence. Kings, emperors, statesmen, generals from all quarters of the ancient world would travel to the Temple with a very generous payment in gold in hopes that the wisdom of the great god Apollo would be bestowed on them and give strength and power to their particular cause.

One of the most famous prophecies made by the Cult of Delphi, according to the ancient historian Herodotus, was to King Croesus of Lydia. King Croesus was a very rich king and the last bastion of the Ionian cities against the increasing Persian power in Anatolia. King Croesus wished to know whether he should continue his military campaign deeper into Persian Empire territory and whether he should seek a military alliance in such a feat.

According to Herodotus, the amount of gold King Croesus delivered was the greatest ever bestowed upon the Temple of Apollo. In return the priestess of Delphi, otherwise known as the Oracle, (some poor young girl selected once a year with the “right attributes”) would spout nonsensical babble, intoxicated by the gas vapours of the chasm she was conveniently placed over. The priests would then “translate” the Oracle’s prophecy.

King Croesus was told as his prophecy-riddle, “If Croesus goes to war he will destroy a great empire.” Croesus was also told to ally himself with the most powerful Greek state, and he chose Sparta. Croesus was overjoyed and thought his victory solid and immediately began working towards building his military campaign against Persia. Long story short, Croesus lost everything and Lydia was taken over by the Persians. The Spartans never showed up.

It turns out the prophecy-riddle was not wrong, but that Croesus mistook which great empire would fall.
