Is the globalist war party about to get its come uppance? Aangirfan has an excellent post, rather obscurely headed Hollande Panics, that draws attention to straws in the wind suggesting that the US/Israeli war for global hegemony is running into serious resistance.

But such optimism may be premature. Over at the White House, what they're planning for Syria is not a punitive raid but the total destruction of Syria's entire military establishment.

Syrian Woman Rips Into Warmonger McCain

Canada has two NeoCon warmongering national newspapers, the Globe and Mail and the National Post, aka the Globule and the Pustule. Unlike the G and M, the NatPo has the merit of being hard-headed about the business of war as the following excerpts from articles by George Jonas and Marc Steyn make clear.

In brief, what they're saying is, if you're gonna make war, do it to win, not to impress the world with your superior moral standing. And what that means is to wage war like Ghengis Khan or Adolph Hitler, not like some limp-wristed advocate of political correctness.

Threaten Assad with the total annihilation of Damascus, the spot to be marked only by a mountain of skulls and he'll maybe show some deference to the wannabe global hegemon. But threaten to do no more than the international community including Russia and China will tolerate guarantees only failure.

Trouble is that doing what Russia and China will not tolerate could result in devastating consequences for the Neocon warmongers: US warships sent to the bottom by supersonic Russian or Chinese anti-ship missiles, for example, plus the downing of America's stupendously expensive warplanes by by Russian-supplied anti-aircraft missiles. And, as Putin is supposed to have threatened, a rain missiles on Saudi Arabia's oil terminals, which would put the hydraulics under the price of gasoline.

Vasily  Vereshchagin (1842-1904), Apotheosis of War, 1871.
So in fact the United States has no useful way forward in the war with Syria. Obama would have done better to nix US intervention in Syria than to pussyfoot around seeking a popular basis for what promises to be an ineffectual assault on a country that has done the United States no harm.

Marc Steyn: Obama the Timid Warmonger

What the British people are sick of, quite reasonably enough, is ineffectual warmongering, whether in the cause of Blairite liberal interventionism or of Bush’s big-power assertiveness. The problem with the American way of war is that, technologically, it can’t lose, but, in every other sense, it can’t win. No one in his right mind wants to get into a tank battle or a naval bombardment with the guys responsible for over 40% of the planet’s military expenditures. Which is why these days there aren’t a lot of tank battles. The consummate interventionist Robert Kagan wrote in his recent book that the American military “remains unmatched.” It’s unmatched in the sense that the only guy in town with a tennis racket isn’t going to be playing a lot of tennis matches. But the object of war, in Liddell Hart’s famous distillation, is not to destroy the enemy’s tanks (or Russian helicopters) but his will. And on that front America loses, always. The “unmatched” superpower cannot impose its will on Kabul kleptocrats, Pashtun goatherds, Egyptian generals, or Benghazi militia. There is no reason to believe Syria would be an exception to this rule. America’s inability to win ought to be a burning national question, but it’s not even being asked.

What do we want in Syria? Obama can’t say, other than for him to look muscular without being mocked

Let us stipulate that many of those war-weary masses are ignorant and myopic. But at a certain level they grasp something that their leaders don’t: For a quarter-century, from Kuwait to Kosovo to Kandahar, the civilized world has gone to war only in order to save or liberate Muslims. The Pentagon is little more than central dispatch for the U.S. military’s Muslim Fast Squad. And what do we have to show for it? Liberating Syria isn’t like liberating the Netherlands: In the Middle East, the enemy of our enemy is also our enemy. Yes, those BBC images of schoolchildren with burning flesh are heart-rending. So we’ll get rid of Assad and install the local branch of al-Qaeda or the Muslim Brotherhood or whatever plucky neophyte democrat makes it to the presidential palace first — and then, instead of napalmed schoolyards, there will be, as in Egypt, burning Christian churches and women raped for going uncovered.

So what do we want in Syria? Obama can’t say, other than for him to look muscular without being mocked, like a camp bodybuilder admiring himself in the gym mirror.
George Jonas: A Strange Time to Ask Permission
If the former constitutional scholar is right and congressional approval is unnecessary, the current Commander-in-Chief is grievously wrong. Delaying a necessary military response for an unnecessary legislative approval is an error of judgment bordering on incompetence. What if Congress refuses to consent to what the Commander-in-Chief thinks is necessary? Do what the House or Senate majority want rather than what he thinks is right? Boy, that’s not the way to an equestrian statue; it’s more like dereliction of duty leading to a court martial. Or will he ask the legislators’ advice only to reject it if it’s different from what he wants to hear?

This would be like asking a cop if you can cross a street without having to do so, and if he answers no, crossing it anyway. This would be a good way of turning a legal act of crossing a street into an illegal act of obstructing police. For Mr. Obama to seek congressional approval for something he believes (a) doesn’t require their blessing in the first place, and (b) is right and necessary, must in fact mean (c) that either (a) or (b) isn’t true.

Japan Finally Acts to Restrict Fukushima Ocean Pollution

More than a year ago, we argued that the Government of Japan should, without delay, begin construction of a barrier to prevent further leakage of radioactivity into the Pacific Ocean from the Tsunami-stricken Fukushima nuclear reactors. Specifically, we wrote:
When will Japan begin building a barrage around the Fukushima waterfront to contain leakage of radiation from the stricken plant, which threatens to poison the oceans and fisheries of the World?
At last the Government of Japan has decided to act. It will spend 47 billion yen (US$473 million) to create an ice dam around the Fukushima waterfront to prevent radioactive water continuing to leak into the ocean.

Late, is certainly better than never, although it is difficult to understand why it has taken more than two years to think up a simple temporary solution such as this when, to quote Dr Tatsujiro Suzuki, vice chairman of the Japan Atomic Energy Commission,

Source

the situation at the nuclear power plant is an "unprecedented crisis" and that it is "getting worse".

He said the plan to freeze the ground around the site was "challenging", and a permanent solution was needed.
I guess if it had just been just an ordinary crisis, in a more or less stable if critical state, we'd have been waiting another decade or two for any kind orf useful action, with a permanent solution indefinitely delayed.

UK Takes First Feeble, Steps to Eliminate Unemployment and Poverty in the Manner We Have Long Proposed

On various occasions we have pointed out the imbecility of welfare schemes that make idleness pay while offering no assistance to the working poor.

The solution to the problem of poverty among those able and willing to work is a free labor market and a publicly funded income supplement, thus ensuring that those unable to earn a living wage in the market economy do not starve.

As I have discussed previously, the idea has a number of variants, for example, a negative income tax, tradable wage subsidies, etc., and it remains to be seen which offers the most efficient means of achieving the intended objective.

Such ideas are, naturally, derided by the dupes and shills of the billionaire libertarians, but they offer the only practical solution to the problem of poverty due to mass unemployment in non-competitive regions of the West such Greece and Spain, Detroit and Glasgow, etc. — other than waiting for the billionaire libertarians to solve the problem through their own generous (not) charitable activities.

Western capitalists find it much cheaper to manufacture clothing for the home
market in collapsible factories such as this one in Bangladesh, than pay Western
workers real wages to work in factories at home that are subject to workplace
health and safety regulations and where minimum wage laws apply.. (Image source)
In addition, unemployment due to the lack of adjustment mechanisms, for example, between Greece and Germany in the EU or between Michigan and the Dakotas in the US, can be alleviated by across-the-board adjustments in wage rates based on national or regional unemployment rates.

Despite the venoumous ridicule of such ideas from the Libertarians intent on destroying the welfare state while intending to do nothing, other than bleat about morals and charity, to deal with the resultant social catastrophe, the British Government, at least, is taking steps precisely in accord with the policies we have advocated.

Thus, for example, the UK Government is now contemplating government subsidies to wages for low paid workers administered through the tax system. At the same time, the UK Government has instituted variable pay scales for public servants such that those in poorer regions, i.e., those regions with generally high unemployment, will get lower pay.

Although these are only feeble, baby steps in the direction we have advocated, they may lead ultimately to a general solution to the problems of mass unemployment and poverty that have been created as a consequence of forcing Western worker, through the process of globalization, into direct competition with billions of Third-Worlders working for pennies an hour.

The cost of assembling an i-Phone at a Chinese sweatshop is said to be about
US$4.00. Nobody even thinks of trying to compete with that at European or
American minimum wage rates. (Image source)
For now, the measures adopted or proposed are no doubt seen as stopgap measures to be withdrawn when the economy improves. But when it becomes clear beyond doubt that when you off-shore the economy the only way you'll get it back is by lowering the cost of labor to match that of the Third World then serious thought will be given to how to achieve that without inducing mass starvation among the working poor who have to face a far higher  cost of living than those Bangladeshi garment factory workers or those Chinese assembly line workers who assemble i-phones and just about any other consumer good available in the West.

Naturally, we expect no credit for identifying the solution to the central economic problem of the times. But surely within a few years some Ivy League University economics professor will win a Nobel Prize for encapsulating these obvious ideas into a couple of mathematical equations that no one but a PhD economist can understand.

Hypocrites For War Get a Trashing

UK Government Loses First Parliamentary Vote for War in Over 200 Years
we know the regime has Chemical Weapons, as we still have the receipts
- David Camoron

The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.
- H.L. Mencken

Reuters, August 30, 2013: Prime Minister David Cameron's plans to join a potential military strike on Syria were thwarted on Thursday night when Britain's parliament narrowly voted against a government motion to authorize such action in principle.

In a humiliating defeat for the British leader likely to damage Cameron's hopes of being re-elected in 2015 and set back traditionally strong U.S.-UK relations, parliament defied Cameron by 285 to 272 votes.

Commentators said it was the first time a British prime minister had lost a vote on war since 1782, when parliament effectively conceded American independence by voting against further fighting to crush the colony's rebellion.

White phosphorus over Gaza. (Source)
The public have finally had it with wars justified by fake terrorism and bullshit moralism based on the stupid idea that killing someone with toxic gases is somehow vastly more heinous that murdering them with white phosporus, as happened in Gaza at the hands of Israel and in Fallujah at the hands of the United States, or blowing them to fragments of torn flesh and splintered bone with high explosives, as happens routinely wherever American drones and cruise missiles fly.

The Parliamentary defeat of Cameron's case for war on Syria is a necessary consequence of that public disillusionment. The same disillusionment exists in America. If Obama wants to wage war to reduce Syria to obedience to the will of the American Empire then he'd do well to say so. Quite a few people might support the idea. But his effort to persuade Americans and foreigners alike that the US has some moral obligation to bomb Syria into submission as it did with Libya not only insults the intelligence of the American public, but brings ridicule upon the government and people of America.

The civil war in Syria, which has killed 100,000 and made refugees of millions, has  been made possible by the provision of billions of dollars supplied to the Syrian rebels by US subordinate tyrannies, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The idea that America would spend one cent to prevent any number of Syrians being asphyxiated with poisonous gases if such expenditure failed to extend the power of the American empire is a childish absurdity.

Craig Murray: Israel Grants Oil Rights in Syria to Murdoch and Rothschild
Israel has granted oil exploration rights inside Syria, in the occupied Golan Heights, to Genie Energy. Major shareholders of Genie Energy – which also has interests in shale gas in the United States and shale oil in Israel – include Rupert Murdoch and Lord Jacob Rothschild.

...For Israel to seek to exploit mineral reserves in the occupied Golan Heights is plainly illegal in international law. Japan was succesfully sued by Singapore before the International Court of Justice for exploitation of Singapore’s oil resources during the second world war. The argument has been made in international law that an occupying power is entitled to opeate oil wells which were previously functioning and operated by the sovereign power, in whose position the occupying power now stands. But there is absolutely no disagreement in the authorities and case law that the drilling of new wells – let alone fracking – by an occupying power is illegal.

Israel tried to make the same move twenty years ago but was forced to back down after a strong reaction from the Syrian government, which gained diplomatic support from the United States. Israel is now seeking to take advantage of the weakened Syrian state; this move perhaps casts a new light on recent Israeli bombings in Syria.

In a rational world, the involvement of Rothschild and Murdoch in this international criminal activity would show them not to be fit and proper persons to hold major commercial interests elsewhere, and action would be taken. Naturally, nothing of the kind will happen.

Jon Rappoport: Syria, lies exposed, broken paradigms, dead pigs

...Every significant geopolitical story on the nightly news is a dead pig painted with lipstick.

On the home front, media, fed by politicians, are focusing on “dangerous people” who value freedom. This is a tale so old it creaks. It was told in ancient Egypt, in Greece, in Rome during the death throes of the Empire. Now, in America, it can only be spun by fatuously accusing freedom lovers of racism.

The Surveillance State is losing public support by the day. The notion that the government has to spy on everybody all the time to find “the terrorists” is so off-key, it sounds like a barroom medley sung by drunken sailors. Or a pronouncement rolled out at the height of the Catholic Inquisition.

To impose a closed system on the populace, it’s necessary to reduce the definition of what a person is. In this modern age, that strategy involves promoting stripped-down, lowest-common-denominator thought as a marvelous advance that will enable “human-machine” interactions…bringing us to the brink of a new techno-paradise.

It’s such a desperate tale, one wonders how the sellers can make it through the day without falling down and laughing themselves out of court.

The answer is: government funding. Like the oil monopoly, like the war machine, like the nuclear-energy titan, the government dispenses $$ to make the myths endure.

The pinnacle of this corruption is war. Offensive war. Not war to protect the home front, but to establish new beachheads of conquest, under the pretension of helping to liberate the oppressed. To create a sense of unity where unity was lacking.

The proposed attack on Syria is the latest footnote....

The whole thing is a sham and a scam and a cardboard front. Get it? I’m trying to tell you, my fellow Americans, ladies and gentlemen, all you good folks out there, what’s really happening. I’m hitting the high points.

We, in the media, are your basic liars. That’s our skill. That’s what makes us great. Right now, we’re selling the war to you. We’re trying, damn it, but it’s not easy. We’ve got so little to work with.

Dianne Sawyer, Scott Pelley, and I are carnival barkers. We dress it up, but that’s all we are. We fake it every night. I don’t even need to be here. You could have a CGI of me, programmed with messages from the White House, polished by our writers at NBC. Now, in fact, looking back at my career, that’s what it feels like. I was never here. I don’t know where the hell I was, but through a stroke of fate, I’m back. And I’m trying to feed you a little truth.

Just think oil and keep thinking oil. Oil pipeline through Syria. Oil in the Middle East.

Anyway…where was I? I could show you pictures of a hundred, two hundred places around the world where governments are torturing and killing their own people and putting them in cages. Is the US supposed to go into all those places and liberate the oppressed? Are we supposed to force free elections from the North Pole to Tierra del Fuego?

And what is a free election? I’ll tell you. It’s the same big-time players behind the scenes cooking the vote for a new bunch of tyrants. ...

Winston Churchill's July 1944 memo about poisonous gas to his chief of staff
I want you to think very seriously over this question of poison gas. It is absurd to consider morality on this topic when everybody used it [gas] in the last war without a word of complaint from the moralists or the Church. On the other hand, in the last war the bombing of open cities was regarded as forbidden. Now everybody does it as a matter of course. It is simply a question of fashion changing as she does between long and short skirts for women.

The Libertarian Delusion

At a time when both Republicans and Democrats or Tories and Liberals are seen for what they have become, mere dupes or puppets of the money power fundamentally destructive of the public interest, many, especially of the young, find hope for the future in libertarianism, the ideology that propelled Ron Paul's remarkable independent run for the US Presidency.

Libertarians believe we
should all be free to profit
from, and enjoy the benefits
of, kiddie porn, the narcotics
trade, and child prostitution
without government interference.
But whatever may be the theoretical appeal of libertarianism, it will always remain just that, theoretical, for there never has been and never will be a libertarian country, which is to say a country without government where the only collective action is the result of spontaneous voluntary association among individuals.

In the absence of government, the strong and devious assert control over others, and the strongest and the most devious assert control over all other dominating elements by a judicious sharing of the spoils of power, thereby creating a more or less stable power structure or government.

Libertarian billionaires say that redistribution
of wealth via the tax system is immoral. LOL.
Libertarianism today is primarily a scheme devised by billionaires and their dupes and lackeys designed to slough off the welfare state and to destroy the last vestiges of democracy in the West by asserting that there is no need for any government at all. That is why libertarian Ron Paul derived his greatest campaign backing from Bilderberg steering committee member, Peter Thiel, a billionaire libertarian intent on destroying the nation state.

But the billionaire owners of the governments of the Western states won’t be quick to demobilize the military or disband the police who protect them from the disaffected unemployed or the great majority of the citizenry who oppose the genocide of their own people through mass immigration of cheap Third-World labor devoid of belief in, or knowledge of the Western tradition of freedom inspired by the Christian tradition.

In short, libertarianism is a route to plutocratic government, i.e., government for the money power, by the money power, of the money power.

Americans Neither Believe Their Own Government Nor Support Its Violent Intentions

WaPo, August 26, 2013 New poll: Syria intervention even less popular than Congress

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll has finally found something that Americans like even less than Congress: the possibility of U.S. military intervention in Syria. Only 9 percent of respondents said that the Obama administration should intervene militarily in Syria; a RealClearPolitics poll average finds Congress has a 15 percent approval rating, making the country’s most hated political body almost twice as popular.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was taken Aug.19-23, the very same week that horrific reports emerged strongly suggesting that Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad has used chemical weapons against his own people, potentially killing hundreds or even thousands of civilians. If there were ever a time that Americans would support some sort of action, you’d think this would be it. But this is the lowest support for intervention since the poll began tracking opinion on the issue. The survey also found that 60 percent oppose intervention outright, with the rest, perhaps sagely, saying that they don’t know.
Politico, August 26, 2013: Kerry Prepares the Way for US to Launch Shock and Awe Against Syria

Nato to the rescue in Libya
Setting the stage for eventual military intervention, Kerry said in a statement from the State Department that what is happening on the ground in Syria “is real and it is compelling” and requires a response from the international community. Attacks on civilians by Bashar Assad’s regime are, he said, “a moral obscenity” that “should shock the conscience of the world.”

“Make no mistake: President Obama believes there must be accountability for those who would use the world’s most heinous weapons against the world’s most vulnerable people. Nothing today is more serious, and nothing is receiving more serious scrutiny,” Kerry later added.
Trouble for the Obama administration is that the US has cried wolf too often:
How our friends in Egypt deal with an unruly crowd. Kerry silent.

So now why would Americans believe their own lying government when it claims WMD use by Syria in the face of evidence that the incident, if any, was fabricated by agencies of the US Government?

It is now obvious to anyone familiar with international events of the last few years that the United States is the World's bastion of terror, deployed overseas against governments that refuse submission to US hegemomy, and at home to intimidate domestic critics and opponents.

The US is now the Evil Empire. And if the American empire fails, so what? The nation state is the only institution that resists the imperial will. Thus the American Empire, like all empires, seeks the genocide of all independent nations within its orbit. The US is the driver of globalization that undermines the prosperity of the Western nations, while destroying their culture and racial identity through mass immigration. The Western nations, including America herself, would be well rid of the US as the global hegemon, bully, liar and fount of terror both domestic and foreign.

For once I find myself in complete agreement with Craig Murray who makes the logical, moral and political case for not intervening with cruise missiles in the Syrian civil war with absolute clarity and simplicity. Telegraph: Former Archbishop: Intervention in Syria Would Spark General War

With reference to the former Archbishop's comments, it should be understand that a general war is something that US/Israel now urgently desires.

Great wars occur when a great power declines but resists giving place to others. The US is a fast declining power. Its industrial base has been massively hollowed out by globalization, its GDP and standard of living are falling, its educational standards increasingly a joke. Meantime Russia has rebuilt its military base, while China's economy on any rational basis of measurement has overtaken that of the US. With five times America's population, the largest industrial base in the world and a large and rapidly growing R&D sector, China will soon emerge as a global superpower. Hence the drive by US/Israel and their NATO puppets to conquer the ME while the possibility still remains, the hope being that by gaining absolute control over the World's largest energy reserves they can retain global dominance, and with it the means to impose the globalist agenda of the money power.

The globalist agenda means destruction of the nation states, including not only US/Israel's Nato puppets but America itself and the transfer of national authority to a collective of globalist institutions such as the UN, EU, NATO, NAFTA, etc., which will be subordinate to the money power, and thus give rise to a global plutocratic system or neo-feudalism, under which the vast mass of mankind will live or die at the whim of the very rich as a mind-controlled slave class.

Those looking for "A Moral Obscenity" now have it.

I am willing to define the term as follows: A pre-ordained war, on inconclusive evidence, with only 9% support (24% even IF chemicals were used by Assad).
Robert Fisk: Obama Prepares for War in Alliance With Al-Quaeda
.... There will be some ironies, of course. While the Americans drone al-Qa’ida to death in Yemen and Pakistan – along, of course, with the usual flock of civilians – they will be giving them, with the help of Messrs Cameron, Hollande and the other Little General-politicians, material assistance in Syria by hitting al-Qa’ida’s enemies. Indeed, you can bet your bottom dollar that the one target the Americans will not strike in Syria will be al-Qa’ida or the Nusra front.

And our own Prime Minister will applaud whatever the Americans do, thus allying himself with al-Qa’ida, whose London bombings may have slipped his mind. Perhaps – since there is no institutional memory left among modern governments – Cameron has forgotten how similar are the sentiments being uttered by Obama and himself to those uttered by Bush and Blair a decade ago, the same bland assurances, uttered with such self-confidence but without quite enough evidence to make it stick.

In Iraq, we went to war on the basis of lies originally uttered by fakers and conmen. Now it’s war by YouTube.
21st Century Wire: John Kerry's Moral Obscenity

Pat Buchanan: Congress should veto Obama's war
[W]ho deputized the United States to walk the streets of the world pistol-whipping bad actors? Where does our imperial president come off drawing “red lines” and ordering nations not to cross them?

Neither the Security Council nor Congress nor NATO nor the Arab League has authorized war on Syria.

Who made Barack Obama the Wyatt Earp of the Global Village?

Moreover, where is the evidence that WMDs were used and that it had to be Assad who ordered them? Such an attack makes no sense.

Firing a few shells of gas at Syrian civilians was not going to advance Assad’s cause but, rather, was certain to bring universal condemnation on his regime and deal cards to the War Party, which wants a U.S. war on Syria as the back door to war on Iran.

Pepe Escobar: RUSSIA HAS PROOF THAT THE "REBELS" DID IT.

Aangirfan: Has America's Tahrir Square moment come?
You know how hubris eventually encounters nemesis? Well it would stand to reason that a people given to believing that they can convince the punters of anything and get away with it would eventually tell a lie so poorly concocted and so badly delivered that they'd give themselves away.

Think about 911, or better still the WMD's-in-Iraq bullshit. At the time not so many realised it was fake and the audience for those who wrote about it was very small. Besides which, the timeframe between WMD lies and WMD truth was very long. Time is very useful for confusion and forgetting.

But things are really different now. ...

How Globalization Shrinks the Economy

Globalization provides great profit opportunities for global corporations, one being through wage arbitrage, which is to say the substitution of cheap Third World labor for expensive western labor. A consequence of such labor substitution now becoming abundantly clear is a reduction in Western living standards: globalization has increased rates of unemployment, underemployment and workforce abandonment throughout the West, while lowering wages and destroying the power of unionized labor.

Loss in the West of manufacturing jobs and jobs in internationally tradable services such as engineering, biotech, drug research, and software has reduced Western investment in plant and equipment leading to further reductions in demand for Western labor and thus in Western living standards, not to mention morale and workforce skills.

What is bad for the worker is inevitably bad for the consumer economy. Massively increased debt such as we now see in the West can compensate only so far for lower wages, and once the limit on adjustment to declining income through increased debt is reached the burden of servicing the increased debt further reduces consumption.

With declining spending power, consumers compensate by purchasing cheaper stuff, which means substituting for whatever is still made domestically stuff, often of greatly inferior quality, made in Third-World sweatshops — did you ever notice how WalMart and other stores specializing in cheap Third World merchandise have a peculiar cheap-trash smell? I guess it's all the outgassing plastics and synthetic fabrics.

The result of forcing consumers to depend increasingly on imported goods adds a further turn of the screw on the domestic labor market, driving incomes and thus consumption down another notch.

In the West, where consumer spending accounts for 70% or more of GDP, declining consumption must mean economic contraction. Economic contraction is bad news for the ruling elite, since the public judge the performance of any government primarily according to their standard of living.

But not to worry. The public are sufficiently deluded by the economic drivel supplied by the media to believe that the economic consequences of government action are faithfully measured by a metric known as the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). But GDP is a wonderfully meaningless statistic, being simply a measure of all expenditures, including not only expenditures for useful goods and services plus investments in desirable things like homes, schools and hospitals for ourselves and our children, but all the ludicrous things on which Western governments  dispose of half the national income.

For example, subsidies for alternative energy that enrich various among the undeserving friends of government, including Prime Minister David Cameron's father-in-law who nets a cool thousand quid a day leasing land for useless windmills. (Solar power is another popular target of unproductive government spending.) Such programs add to the GDP, while diminishing the wealth of the nation. Among such dysfunctional expenditures must be included public education, now chiefly a conduit for state propaganda, and public healthcare, which may  kill as many as it cures.

More significant, though, are expenditures for national security, i.e., intimidation of the public through measures to counter non-existent terrorists. US Homeland security, for example, has purchased enough hollow-point bullets to shoot every American five times over, which suggests either a huge waste of money or a nasty plot to shoot every American with hollow-point bullets five times over. In either case, the outcome can hardly be considered an addition to national wealth, yet the cost has undoubtedly been included in the calculation of US GDP. Meantime, the Brits lavish billions watching one another by means of millions of CCTV cameras, to no obvious economic advantage.

And then there's the wars against people without a chance against high explosives delivered from the air. These have limitless potential for jacking up GDP as fast as the central bank can print the currency. And the inflationary effect combined with a phony CPI deflator is enough, all on its own, to create the illusion of economic growth.

And most importantly, there's mass immigration, of which the liberals who dominate the Western political debate cannot have enough. Immigrants create additional economic demand and thus bump up output, but this is not output for ourselves and our children. No, this is output created by and for those foreigners with whom Western rulers have opted to make their own people share the country. Mostly immigrants are young adults and their children. They thus create a huge demand for new infrastructure: maternity wards, schools, roads, houses, sewers, power generation, universities, recreational facilities.

Mass immigration is thus ideal for boosting demand in an economy being hollowed out by globalization. The cost of all the additional infrastructure necessitated by the resultant population boom props up a sagging GDP. And the joke is that the cost of this additional "GDP" is borne by the taxpayer who is thus forced to subsidize the people who have come to take his job, obliterate his culture and drive sky high the price his kids will have to pay if they want a home of their own.

How Mr. Bezos's Newspaper Censors Its Own Front Page Story

Vanessa Pham
CCC, August 11, 2013: Amidst a national debate about a potential amnesty for millions of undocumented immigrants, the Washington Post featured a front page story about the prime suspect accused of carrying out a sickening murder, but refused to mention the fact that he was an illegal alien.

The article concerned pretrial filings in the 2010 killing of Falls Church teen Vanessa Pham. ...

The Washington Post is the property of Amazon founder and multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos.

Bezos  is one of the world’s richest men. He has agreed to pay $250 million in cash for The Post and affiliated publications to the Washington Post Co., which owns the newspaper and other businesses, which raises the question: Is anyone rich enough to buy a newspaper a fit person to own one?

No doubt most of the public is sufficiently brainwashed by the media to think that a billionaire is the ideal person to control a major organ of what used to be known, laughably, as the "free" press.

Yet Amazon, founded by Bezos, ranks among the biggest spenders among high-technology companies seeking to influence the work of the federal government. According to Bloomberg
They have a huge number of issues before the federal government and now he’s bought the hometown paper for covering those politicians,” said Bill Allison, editorial director for the Sunlight Foundation, a Washington-based watchdog group. “There’s always a concern you’re going to have a conflict when you have wealthy publisher. Given all of Amazon’s issues, it’s hard to see where Bezos won’t have a conflict.
All of which suggests that WaPo's line on illegal immigration or anything else will be determined strictly according to the financial implications for the newspaper's owner and of the businesses he controls.

Stephen Harper, Obarmy's Anti-Russian Mouthpiece

At the June G8 summit in Northern Ireland Harper said:
This is G7 plus one.
The one being Russia, who, Harper said, was supporting the thugs of the Assad regime.

What Harper didn't say, naturally, was that the "thugs of the Assad regime" were being supported by Russia against Al Qaeda-dominated rebel forces.  Yes, that's right, the Al Qaeda that supposedly brought down the Twin Towers and provided the US the justification required for invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Now Harper's sounding off on Russia's "anti-gay law." Speaking in Miramichi, N.B., the Prime Minister said:
Canadians expect his government to defend human rights
Which may be so. Although is it, really?

Do Canadians expect their government to go round the World like Sir Galahad on a white charger righting all wrongs at whatever cost in blood and treasure?

Maybe not.

Perhaps Canadians agree with David Henry Thoreau who said it is not possible to prevent all the evil in the World.

In which case, perhaps Canadians think that the government of Canada should stick to promoting human rights in Canada and leave the internal affairs of Russia to the Russians. Stephen Harper might, for example, make some effort to resolve Indian land claims, an issue concerning human rights if ever there was one.

But still if the crimes against humanity are grave enough, perhaps we have to stand up for the poor oppressed Russians.

So what, exactly, did Harper have to say?
Canada is not a country where people are jailed or killed for their political positions or for engagin in certain consensual acts between adults.
Well, hey, what's going on. Are the Russians really jailing and killing queers?

Well, actually, no, according to Pravda:
The first point is to get things straight regarding the legal framework covering all citizens in Russia. The age of consent in Russia is 16 years of age, regardless of sexual orientation; transsexuals and transgender persons are allowed to change their legal gender, homosexuality is not regarded as a mental illness and it is not a criminal offence under Russian law; single persons can adopt children whatever their sexual orientation, while homosexuals can serve in the armed forces without any type of restriction.

Secondly, let us examine the law in question that was passed recently by 436 votes in favour and zero against with one abstention by Russia's DUMA, or Parliament: it is a law which bans the propagation of non-traditional sexual activities among minors. In other words, it is a law which prohibits the distribution or dissemination of homosexual acts, among children.

So, suppose those who are making this bru-ha-ha about the Winter Olympics and are talking of boycotting them, considered how they would feel if someone showed graphic images of same-gender sexual activities to their children? One can only consider that they would stand back and applaud?

The third point in question here is that of cultural values and respect for these in context. Russian society today stands solidly behind traditional family values, and as a rule Russian society today does not understand, or condone, same-sex marriage or unions. Period. It is not for the west to complain about it, any more than it is up to the average Russian citizen to launch a campaign against London because it is still illegal today to run or sing in the Burlingdon Arcade between Piccadilly and Cork Street.
Now Pravda may be full of lies, as it always used to be when the Soviet press was about as truthful as the New York Times is today, but what is stated above is confirmed by the Toronto Star, specifically that the Russian law is aimed at preventing homosexual recruitment among children.

Thus, the Star reports:
...fines can now be imposed on those who provide information about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community to minors or hold gay pride rallies
Which is something quite different from jailing and killing queers, and indicates that Stephen Harper was engaging in ridiculous lying propaganda reminiscent of the Cold War rhetoric spewed by the heads of the more trivial satellites of the Soviet Union.

And the reason for Harper's Russo-phobic hate speech is not hard to understand. Harper wants concessions from the US on oil pipelines and other issues and the Russians are deeply displeasing to America, the global hegemon.

The Russians perversely insist on family friendly policies with the aim of rebuilding a population badly depleted by a murderous Communist tyranny, decimated by the Nazi's during WW2 and severely reduced, after the fall of the Soviet Union, by an economic liberalization policy devised by Harvard Neocons, which  led to the premature death of millions.

Worse, the Russians won't open their borders to mass migration. They want to keep Russia Russian for God's sake, the filthy racists.

How can the nations of the Earth be reduced to a mongrelized mass ripe for enslavement by the global plutocracy if those Russian bastards won't commit to national self genocide?

The (Toronto) Globe and Mail (aka the Toronto Gay Male), in its coverage of Harper's attack naturally makes no attempt to expose the facts of the case that make a mockery of Harper's statement.

No wonder newspaper sales are falling. The Globe and Mail should consider Jon Rappoport's suggestion on how to revive the business: "Try telling the truth."

"The youth jobless rate in Greece has just reached 64.9pc.

... Europe has needlessly pushed the whole EMU bloc into a deep double-dip recession, and the longest unbroken contraction since World War Two.
If the EU must maintain a monetary union over a hugely diverse economic zone with limited labor mobility due to language and cultural differences, then a mechanism is required for adjusting wages to maintain an equality of regional competitiveness.

Such a mechanism would be provided by periodic adjustment of all wages, salaries and bonuses on a national or regional basis according to national or regional unemployment rates.

Greece, with a 64% youth unemployment rate evidently needs something like a 50% across-the-board wage cut. The more competitive Germans, and some others, need an across-the-board pay raise to reduce their competitiveness to that of the EMU mean.

Variation in the value of the Euro relative to that of the US dollar, the renminbi, etc., would then adjust the competitiveness of all nations within the Eurozone relative to the rest of the world, thereby insuring low unemployment across Europe.

Daily Mail: Dawkins Ridicules Muslim Intellectual Achievement Since the Dark Ages
Odd, really, for an evolutionary biologist to value a social system for its capacity for intellectual innovation, rather than its capacity to ensure the survival of those who live by it.

From an evolutionary perspective, Britain's post-Darwinian atheistic, materialistic belief system has been a disaster that has led to policies of self-genocide through the destruction of the family and the promotion of mass immigration. Islamic societies, in contrast, continue to expand in population both internally and beyond their own borders.

A further disastrous development during Britain's post-Christian era has been the transformation of public education from a meritocratic ladder for the advancement of the most intellectually able, to a system whose primary function is politically correct indoctrination, with inevitably, catastrophic consequences for real education in Britain.

In this connection, it is interesting to note that Since Walter Gilbert won a Nobel Prize in 1980, only one indigenous Briton affiliated with Trinity College, Cambridge, England's premier center of scientific research, has won a Nobel Prize in a real science (Dawkins's criterion of intellectual merit). Other Trinity scholars to win a Nobel science prize since 1980 are among the fine non-indigenously British people who now increasingly occupy the main places of power and privilege in Britain's multi-culti, mass-immigration society. For example, Sir Aaron Klug, Subramanyan Chandrasekhar, and Venkatraman Ramakrishnan.

The best hope the English have of surviving as a racial/biological entity may be to convert on mass to Islam. At least then they would be rid of their pro-porn, pro-homosexual, anti-family, anti-reproductive ideology promoted by the likes of Richard Dawkins.
David Lindorff: AG Holder promises Russia That the US will Not Torture US Citizen Edward Snowden
Why does the United States, a country supposedly committed to the rule of law, promise not to torture one of its own citizens when torture is explicitly prohibited by the Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution?

Obviously because it is has no commitment to the rule of law and is seen by the World to have no commitment to the rule of law, and thus has been led to the humiliating expedient of promising, in order to get their hands on Edward Snowden, not to torture him.

What makes the incident doubly humiliating to the United States is that their demand that Russia extradite Edward Snowden was rejected, quite reasonably, since as David Lindorff relates, abusive treatment amounting to torture is precisely how the United States Government dealt with Bradley Manning, who has been convicted of crimes similar to those with which Snowden has been accused.

FT: In The Three Years Since Cameron Became UK Prime Minister Average Wages in Britain Have Fallen 6660 Pounds

Real wages have fallen in 36 of the 37 months since David Cameron became prime minister, according to new data. The figures suggest the average worker will have lost the equivalent of £6,660 in that period.
Wow! Who could have guessed that exporting the manufacturing sector and much of the service sector to the Third World while bringing in millions of Third Worlders to undercut the wages of British workers would have lowered wages?

No, folks, this is all very surprising. It could never have been predicted. Heck, not a single Nobel Economics prize winner predicted it.

But, hey, look on the bright side: corporate profits are up, for as David Ricardo said long ago, "wages and profits, together, are always the same," or more directly, wages down, means profits up — as a matter of logical necessity.

And if anyone thinks a Western democracy is run for the benefit of wage earners ... LOL.
