Covid Cases in UK Have Just Reached a New High — Not many dead

According to the Spectator, new Covid cases in the UK have reached a 7-day daily mean of almost 84,000.

Sounds bad, dunnit, as they used to say in my native Devonshire. But is it really such a big number?

It's estimated that adults in Britain get two to four colds every year, and children up to twice as many. That means around two hundred million colds a year in total, which averages out to over half a million a day. But then most colds are caught in the late fall to early spring, so at the present time of year one could expect in Britain about a million cases of the common cold per day.

So, in fact, this new, allegedly highly infectious, Omicron strain of Covid seems to be a bit of a slouch.

Moreover, it has only managed to kill one person in Britain thus far, or rather to have infected one subsequently deceased person whose actual cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, and may well not be known. Indeed, given the untrustworthness of the PRC Covid test still widely used in Britain, one cannot be at all sure whether this unfortunate person really had covid, or perhaps just a bad cold.

So, yes, it looks as though the British Government's main concern is to shill for Pfizer, Inc. and other makers of so-called "vaccines" that prevent neither infection nor transmission of Covid, of whatever the strain.

Time for the Brits to get back to normal life, which seems to be the view of voters in North Shropshire where, in a by-election, a Tory majority of 23,000 at the general election has been entirely washed away by the Lib-Dems, whoever they may be.

Meantime though, Professor Lockdown-for- you-but-not-for-me, Ferguson is driving up the fear factor, predicting 50,000 deaths a day, or hour, or whatever, if people don't shape up and act real scared.

It will be interesting to see what gives first. The public's nerve or the Government's.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the Covid epidemic is over, for this year at least

 The Covid scare continues as governments seek to terrify the public by reporting ever increasing numbers of "cases," aka the deadly Covid19 "Second Wave." 

But what is a "case"?

Is it an illness with symptoms characteristic of a Covid19 infection or just a positive reaction on the generally unreliable (with many false positives)  Covid RT_PCR test, or something else? 

Rarely if ever is this rather important detail divulged.  

But whatever may be a "case," UK Covid deaths peaked at 1152 on April 9 and "cases" hit a peak of 6201 on May 1. "cases" then dropped by 94% to 352 on July 3, by which time the daily death toll had also fallen 94% from the April peak.

Then as the supposedly deadly "Second Wave" hit, "cases" rose to  6873 by last Friday, an 11% increase over May's peak. 

This recrudescence in "cases" seems to have turned Boris Johnson into the Great Dictator intent on locking everyone up. Funny thing, though, UK Covid deaths are down to 34, or only 3% of April's peak rate and only half of the rate at the time of the July minimum in "cases." 

The same pattern is evident in Canada and other North temperate zone countries. The US pattern is somewhat different, as the epidemic started later and is peaking later in Southern than in Northern states, a difference in pattern also seen with the seasonal flu. Nevertheless, it is now clear that the "Second Wave" is by no means comparable in lethality with the first and is not generating a significant excess death rate. 

So the epidemic of Covid-induced death in Northern countries is largely over -- for this year, anyhow. 

The only plague that remains is the pack of liars and swindlers in government intent on shrinking the economy and driving unemployment to Great Depression era levels by imposing unnecessary lockdowns, wildly spending money that central banks obediently print to the detriment of the value of your savings, disrupting education and driving a significant section of the population to a condition of clinical depression.

How Most Canadians Used to Handle a Cold

About a fifty years ago, "How Most Canadians Handle a Cold," was the caption to an add for Beyer aspirin. But, wow, how the country has changed. Today, frightened by models devised by mathematicians entirely divorced from reality -- people who would approximate a donkey by a sphere, a triangle or whatever made the mathematics work -- Canada's leaders have trashed the economy to minimize the risk of what appears to be not much more than a cold.

What’s amazing is that neither the modelers nor the politicians nor their medical advisors have yet been dunked in a pond.

What we have done is shutter something like one third of the economy because of a virus that has, supposedly (i.e., based on extremely dodgy statistics), killed about six thousand Canadians of whom, all but 1200 were elderly care-home residents who received a death sentence from the medical establishment that decreed that sick old people with Covid19 should be moved out of hospital into a care home. The result? Patients with Covid19 transferred to care homes infected, and thus cause the death of, multiple other care-home residents.

The twelve hundred Canadian deaths of non-care home residents attributed thus far to Covid19 is less than a third of Canada’s yearly death toll from suicide, one sixth of the annual rate of death due to diabetes (i.e., excess sugar consumption in a diet of which almost one-third of calories come from sugar), and one tenth of the rate of death due to accidents.

But apparently, to suppress a virus that has thus far killed fewer than the seasonal flu, we in Canada opted to wreck the economy, and gave our Communist dictatorship-admiring, Castro-loving, jet-setting environmentalist, Prime Minister Dress Up freedom to piss away about a third of the GDP paying people not to work.
