The American Conservative, July 18, 2022: Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus, known to history as Caligula, ruled as the Emperor of Rome from A.D. 37 to 41. For those who are unaware, Caligula, the great grandson of Rome’s first emperor, the brilliant Augustus Caesar, squandered the enormous wealth of the Roman State, declared himself to be a god, appointed his favorite racehorse to serve in the Roman Senate, and according to some sources, considered deifying the animal.
After a little less than four years in office, Caligula was removed. Rome’s citizens, as well as its legions, were spared the indignity of having to worship a dead horse. Americans and Europeans are not so lucky.
Determined to fight his proxy war with Russia to the finish, Biden is losing the fight in Ukraine and his favorite, deified horse, NATO, is on life support. The only things sinking faster than Biden’s approval ratings are the American and European economies.
Readers will recall that President Trump wanted to reduce European dependence on American military power—to make Europeans their own “first responders.” Biden reversed Trump’s policy and promised to reinvigorate NATO, in the words of French President Macron, the “the brain dead alliance.”
The problem for NATO is the economic hardship wrought by Biden’s sanctions against Moscow are threatening Europe with economic Armageddon. It’s bad enough when European bond and stock futures plunge and the euro dips below parity with the U.S. dollar, but when Paris, the city of light, shuts off its famous night lights to save energy, things are truly horrific.

Yeah, the mission of the handlers of a senile US President accomplished -- whether Biden will understand that or not.

ReplyDeleteThis is July, too. This is nothing compared to what's going to happen when the weather gets cold. It is hard to believe this is happening. American foreign policy has been one blunder after another, but this one will cause such damage as to be unimaginable.
I appreciate McGregor reminding everyone,
"Readers will recall that President Trump wanted to reduce European dependence on American military power—to make Europeans their own “first responders.” Biden reversed Trump’s policy and promised to reinvigorate NATO, in the words of French President Macron, 'the brain dead alliance.'"
(I admire McGregor more and more.)
Think how punished Trump was for his very sensible approach.
It is stunning the contradiction between the official US narrative of the Ukraine war and the accounts provided by highly qualified former members of the US military such as Douglas McGregor, a former senior adviser to the US Secretary of Defence, and by Scott Ritter, former US Marine Corps Intelligence Officer and Chief UN Weapons Inspector in Iraq (1991-1998).
DeleteClearly the US is no longer a democracy but an oligarchy with a mind-controlled populace living under the delusion that the way it votes actually matters.
It has to be the US has enthralled all of its allies in this official US narrative, and to do this it has to be the allies are under mind control, too.
ReplyDeleteAs with the pandemic, I find it stunning how far apart I am from my former political affiliations. I have no problem accepting McGregor, writing for the American Conservative, and look with horror at some of the things I am hearing from "the liberals".
I was recently told the $40-$53 billion the US has spent aiding Ukraine was the best money the US ever spent...Putin must be stopped, stopped here, while we can still stop him. That reeked of the infamous domino theory, the official US narrative on Vietnam.
Vietnam was engineered by academics, most notably at Harvard. (The Kremlin on the Charles, supposedly.)
"I'm working on a piece -- not sure if it will ever be finished -- on how the social function of the great private American university corrupts the educational process."
I hope you do finish this.
I think it is obvious if the system no longer requires humans, and human labor, it most decidedly doesn't need to invest in educating humans, especially when educated humans would mean questioning, criticism, and revolt from the system.
Education started to mean being unquestioning and as compliant as possible. If achieved, perhaps the golden meal ticket of an Ivy League education would be granted.
How rarely, the populace doesn't seem to understand. If it did, it wouldn't participate in any of this; but look at how the populace lines up for lottery tickets, expensive trips to Vegas or Atlantic City, all sorts of contests designed not to reward, but rope the rubes in, and so forth. Or the hope of a career as a professional athlete.
Now the official narrative from the "best and brightest" dictates unquestioning and passive acceptance of another b.s. official narrative. Education as 1984-style brain washing. Winston Smith was an educated man.
I even appreciate the stuff about worshipping dead horses. The man must have an education. The yahoos are about to get theirs, the hard way.
