I doubt it, but what's happening in politics goes beyond politicians being liars and corrupt. There's a kind of scrambling of intellectual clarity and coherence except apparently the profit motive and greed are alive and kicking.
On a more prosaic note, if that's the way to put it, it isn't that hard for me to imagine huge numbers of people suddenly going bonkers. There is a widespread mental health crisis right now, especially among students. It was hard enough to define rhyme or reason when I was an adolescent, but by comparison, I had it easy.
I was watching the Youtube video "Boris, the Billionaire's Bitch" when out of nowhere I remembered the idea of "capitalism and schizophrenia".
