What is immune escape?
It's when the antibodies you produce in response to viral infection fail to kill mutant forms of the virus.
How does the vax promote immune escape?
First, if you're infected, the virus multiplies throughout the tissues of your body.
Then, your vax-primed immune system kicks in, producing antibodies to the original Wuhan strain.
Every virus particle susceptible to those antibodies dies, which leaves the field (which is to say the cells of your body) wide open to the multiplication of any mutant among the billions of viral particles that pervade your tissues that are resistant to antibodies to the Wuhan strain of the virus.
This development is called "Immune escape."
Deployed during the ongoing global pandemic, the vax can thus to play a key role in the emergence of new Covid variants.
And what are the consequences of immune escape?
First, having taken possession of your body, the Covid variant created with vax-assistance, will likely achieve transmission to others. For example, in the absence of social distancing, lockdowns, etc., every case of the Delta variant creates around eight new cases in a population without immunity.
Second, if the vax-created variant is deadly, it may kill you — though probably not before you've passed it on.
But remember, if you don't get vaxed, Justin Musso Trudeau won't send you to the back of the bus, he will prohibit you from riding the bus, a train, a ship or a plane, he will boot you from any public sector job you may hold, and he will tell the world that you are a very bad, contemptible and stupid person.
So go on. Get vaxed. You may make the pandemic worse, you may die as a result, but what's that compared to being scorned by Justin Trudeau.

I wonder who will be dying this fall vaxed or not vaxed ?
ReplyDeleteWe should probably be thinking about mortality in terms of three groups. The unvaxed, the vaxed and the Covid recovered's.
DeleteOf the three, the unvaxed are probably the most vulnerable, but the vaxed are clearly vulnerable to variants such as Lamda, which has escaped control by antibodies to the Wuhan strain, and therefore will escape control by the current version of the vax.
However, the Covid recovereds who, including the asymptomatic cases, probably account for more than 25% of the population in most countries, will probably do best since they have T- and B-memory cells that will spot any Covid variant and initiate an antibody response tailored to the particular variant.
For now, the vax seems to be somewhat effective against the Delta strain, though there are many vaccinated people who've been infected or have died. It remains to be seen how well the vaccines work with the Lamda variant now causing devastation in Latin America.
DeleteBut the vaccine makers have not been slow to develop top-ups or whatever they call them, i.e., the third shot, to be followed most likely by the fourth fifth and sixth shot. These have presumably been formulated to reflect the spike protein mutations that have resulted in more infectious or pathogenic variants.
But does anyone know what's in these shots? Has anyone published the nucleic acid sequences to determine whether they codes for anything beside the spike protein.
And what about other components.
There are claims that vaccine components could cause female sterility. Former Pfizer vice president and chief science officer, Michael Yeadon, raised this possibility, as have others, although it has, of course, been vigorously denied.
Fact is, we cannot know for sure how use of untested vaccines will pan out. The global distribution of the vaccines is the test. We'll now if there have been dire consequences worldwide in due course.
Bull biscuits. There is no sars-cov-2 and no variants. Three studies came out in July that show people have high natural immunity from lifetime exposure to coronaviruses. Any mutations are close enough to the original that the body can produce antibodies and deal with it. The idea that coronaviruses can mutate into deadly forms is ridiculous. No pandemic has ever been shown.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea is not that the corona virus mutated to a deadly form but that it was genetically engineered as a biowarfare agent.
DeleteAnd while it is true that whatever respiratory virus or viruses are currently in circulation are not generally lethal, the virus I had last year was certainly unpleasant and caused persistent detrimental effects both mental and physical. Such after-effects have been widely reported and are attributed to hemorhagic effects of the Sars-Cov2. I see no reason to doubt that.
As to immunity due to prior corona virus infections, that is dependent on memory T and B cells. But the effectiveness of the vax depends solely on antibodies produced in response to vax-induced production of the spike protein. Thus variants with mutations in the spike protein may indeed escape vax-induced immunity.
So yes, some people have pre-existent Covid immunity due to prior corona virus infection, but not all. It appears from the experience of Covid in care homes that approximately half the population of elderly people have pre-existent immunity. For the other half, the SARS-COV2 is by all accounts extremely dangerous, as can be the common cold variants of the corona virus, and seasonal flu.
