Crackpot American Architects and Engineers: Why New York's World Trade Center Towers Collapsed

The resolution accepted for debate at the May 2015 annual convention of the American Institute of Architects (see text below) raises many questions including the following:

Did New York's Twin Towers plus World Trade Center Building 7 (a 49-story building not hit by an aircraft) collapse on 9/11 because they were designed by crackpot architects and engineers, thus becoming the first and only steel-frame high-rise buildings anywhere in the World to collapse because of fire (as claimed by the US Government-sponsored NIST report)?

Or are the architects and engineers who reject the conclusions of the NIST report on the collapse of Building 7 not crackpots at all?

And, if the Twin Towers and Building 7 collapsed on 9/11 due, not to office fires, but to explosives-driven demolition, then does that not transform the US Government's "War Against Terror" into the "Terror War Against Americans and the World"?

Collapse of World Trade Center Tower 7: Resolution for Debate at the 2015 Annual Convention of the American Institute of Architects

WHEREAS, under the AIA Public Policies and Position Statements, it is the responsibility of architects to design a resilient environment that can more successfully adapt to natural conditions and that can more readily absorb and recover from adverse events; and

WHEREAS, architects and others involved in the design and construction of buildings depend upon the information obtained from investigations into building failures to inform the development of model building codes; and

WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, 7 World Trade Center, a 47-story high-rise building, suffered a complete collapse; and

WHEREAS, on November 20, 2008, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released the final report of its three-year investigation into the complete collapse of 7 World Trade Center, which concluded that fires, an unprecedented cause of failure for a modern high-rise building, were the primary cause of failure; and

WHEREAS, the cause of failure identified by the NIST investigation would mean that hundreds of high-rise buildings in the United States are susceptible to similar failure from fire; and

WHEREAS, thousands of members of the architecture and engineering professions, including the 55 sponsors of this resolution, believe the NIST investigation did not adhere to the principles of the scientific method and, as a result, the conclusions of the NIST investigation are fatally flawed.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the AIA Board of Directors shall adopt a Position Statement, to be published in the AIA Directory of Public Policies and Position Statements, stating:

The AIA’s belief that incidents involving the catastrophic failure of buildings and other structures must be investigated using the highest standards of science-based investigation and analysis in order to provide accurate and meaningful information in the development of model building codes;

The AIA’s recognition that many members of the architecture profession believe the NIST investigation into the complete collapse of 7 World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, did not adhere to the principles of the scientific method and, as a result, the conclusions of the NIST investigation are fatally flawed;

The AIA’s belief that this perspective merits further study; and

The AIA’s support for a new investigation into the complete collapse of 7 World Trade Center.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is advised that this Position Statement be incorporated as Position Statement #3 under the Construction Industry Regulation Public Policy. The recommended language of this Position Statement is as follows:

Jewish Power in America

In an interview with the Saker, former US Assistant Secretary to the Treasury, Paul Craig Roberts, said:

All the evidence is that Israel controls the US, but only its MidEast policy.

This I believe is incorrect. In particular I believe that the qualification "only its MidEast Policy", is incorrect.

The United States is a plutocracy with the trappings of democracy. The money power finances election campaigns and owns the media. Mostly, the outcome of an election is determined before the vote is counted or the campaign begun through the selection of candidates committed to the interests of the money power. Insofar as elections matter at all, they amount only to faction fights among plutocrats, the outcome dependent on campaign funding and manipulation of opinion through control of the media.

First, then, what is the power of Jews within plutocratic America?

According to Forbes Magazine, more than one quarter of America's richest citizens are Jews, although Jews are said to account for less than 2% of America's population. Potentially, therefore, Jews have great power in America. That power can only be enhanced by the evident readiness of many rich Jews to contribute generously to political causes. Moreover, Jews have a tremendous sense of group identity, continually reinforced by the Holocaust Industry, which insures that their political influence tends to be concentrated on achieving quite specific and, among Jews, generally agreed objectives. It is reasonable to suppose therefore that Jews are the most powerful ethnic group in the USA.

Second, then, what are the political objectives of rich Jews in America.

Seemingly, most Jewish-American plutocrats are Zionists, which is to say they are committed to the interests of the state of Israel. But the state of Israel does not encompass all or even the majority of the Jewish nation, the greatest proportion of which resides in America. It is reasonable, therefore, to suppose that the primary objective of plutocratic Jews in America is to promote the interest of American Jews — in politics, academia, the bureaucracy and business.

To tribally-oriented Jews, it must be seen that this objective can be furthered by destroying the dominance in America of ethnic Europeans, an objective now approaching fulfillment through mass multiracial immigration, multiculturalism, and the suppression of white pride, the Christian faith and Western culture, the latter objectives being accomplished through brainwashing, aka education, and political correctness enforced by police and administrative action.

Not all Jews are committed to such a program, obviously, and some publicly oppose it. Among ordinary American Jews many, perhaps most, may be as clueless about what is really happening in their country as are the majority of Euro-Americans now well on their way to minority status, not only in what were formerly great American cities such as Detroit, Miami, Atlanta, St. Louis, Baltimore, Oakland, etc., but state by state and, within a generation, nationally.

Thus American government is powerfully influenced by a plutocratic Jewish minority, not only in the interests of Israel but in the interests of the Jewish nation in America and world-wide. This is not to say that others in America are without power. It is the case, however, that non-Jews in America are not only disinclined to think in racial terms but have for the most part been indoctrinated to believe that to serve first the interests of one's own people constitutes an intolerable evil. So long as that view prevails — which is to say, as long as that view continues to be effectively imposed — the European people, both in Europe and America will continue on the path to early extinction: inundated by aliens, out-reproduced, stripped of their culture and religious tradition, while their jobs and future prospects are off-shored and out-sourced by the money power, both Jewish and otherwise.

The Neoconservative Threat to International Order

Washington’s reckless and irresponsible destruction of the trust achieved by Reagan and Gorbachev has resurrected the possibility of nuclear war.

Foreign Policy Journal, February 27, 2015: This week I was invited to address an important conference of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. Scholars from Russia and from around the world, Russian government officials, and the Russian people seek an answer as to why Washington destroyed during the past year the friendly relations between America and Russia that President Reagan and President Gorbachev succeeded in establishing. All of Russia is distressed that Washington alone has destroyed the trust between the two major nuclear powers that had been created during the Reagan-Gorbachev era, trust that had removed the threat of nuclear armageddon. Russians at every level are astonished at the virulent propaganda and lies constantly issuing from Washington and the Western media. Washington’s gratuitous demonization of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has rallied the Russian people behind him. Putin has the highest approval rating ever achieved by any leader in my lifetime.

Washington’s reckless and irresponsible destruction of the trust achieved by Reagan and Gorbachev has resurrected the possibility of nuclear war from the grave in which Reagan and Gorbachev buried it. Again, as during the Cold War, the specter of nuclear armageddon stalks the earth.

Why did Washington revive the threat of world annihilation? Why is this threat to all of humanity supported by the majority of the US Congress, by the entirety of the presstitute media, and by academics and think-tank inhabitants in the US, such as Motyl and Weiss, about whom I wrote recently?

Colleagues,

What I propose to you is that the current difficulties in the international order are unrelated to Yalta and its consequences, but have their origin in the rise of the neoconservative ideology in the post-Soviet era and its influence on Washington’s foreign policy.

The collapse of the Soviet Union removed the only constraint on Washington’s power to act unilaterally abroad. At that time China’s rise was estimated to require a half century. Suddenly the United States found itself to be the Uni-power, the “world’s only superpower.” Neoconservatives proclaimed “the end of history.”

By the “end of history” neoconservatives mean that the competition between socio-economic-political systems is at an end. History has chosen “American Democratic-Capitalism.” It is Washington’s responsibility to exercise the hegemony over the world given to Washington by History and to bring the world in line with History’s choice of American democratic-capitalism.

In other words, Marx has been proven wrong. The future does not belong to the proletariat but to Washington.

The neoconservative ideology raises the United States to the unique status of being “the exceptional country,” and the American people acquire exalted status as “the indispensable people.”

If a country is “the exceptional country,” it means that all other countries are unexceptional. If a people are “indispensable,” it means other peoples are dispensable. We have seen this attitude at work in Washington’s 14 years of wars of aggression in the Middle East. These wars have left countries destroyed and millions of people dead, maimed, and displaced. Yet Washington continues to speak of its commitment to protect smaller countries from the aggression of larger countries. The explanation for this hypocrisy is that Washington does not regard Washington’s aggression as aggression, but as History’s purpose.

We have also seen this attitude at work in Washington’s disdain for Russia’s national interests and in Washington’s propagandistic response to Russian diplomacy.

The Harper government’s Bill C-51, or Anti-Terrorism Act, has been in the public domain for over a month. Long enough for us to know that it subverts basic principles of constitutional law, assaults rights of free speech and free assembly, and is viciously anti-democratic.

Global Research, March 11, 2015: An unprecedented torrent of criticism has been directed against this bill as the government rushes it through Parliament. This has included stern or at least sceptical editorials in all the major newspapers; an open letter, signed by four former Prime Ministers and five former Supreme Court judges, denouncing the bill for exposing Canadians to major violations of their rights; and another letter, signed by a hundred Canadian law professors, explaining the dangers it poses to justice and legality.

As its critics have shown, the bill isn’t really about terrorism: it’s about smearing other activities by association—and then suppressing them in ways that would formerly have been flagrantly illegal. The bill targets, among others, people who defend the treaty rights of First Nations, people who oppose tar sands, fracking, and bitumen-carrying pipelines as threats to health and the environment, and people who urge that international law be peacefully applied to ending Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territories. (Members of this latter group include significant numbers of Canadian Jews.)

But the Anti-Terrorism Act is more mortally dangerous to Canadian democracy than even these indications would suggest. A central section of the act empowers CSIS agents to obtain judicial warrants—on mere suspicion, with no requirement for supporting evidence—that will allow them to supplement other disruptive actions against purported enemies of Harperland with acts that directly violate the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and other Canadian laws.

This is the New World Order plan for all nation states: it is the neutron bomb option, which aims to destroy people, few of whom will be needed in the new economy of computerization, automation, robots and artificial intelligence, while leaving intact land and resources to be accumulated at minimal cost in the hands of plutocracy.

The globalist plutocracy is in the process of taking ownership of the World, which they will rule by way of the anti-democratic global institutions over which they have proprietary control. The common people, those that are allowed to remain, will exist chiefly as domesticated beasts to be bred, culled, and brainwashed as required by a ruthless elite of the very rich.

The commentator's valuation of Novorossiya's resources is crazy, e.g., coal at $100 per ton. Russia sells mined coal for $30.00 per ton so the value of the resource in the ground, which is expensive to mine in Donbas, is probably only a dollar or two per ton, not one hundred. Meantime, the Minsk II Ukraine ceasefire agreement may mark the end, or at least the beginning of the end, of the US-inspired attempt to genocide the Russian-speakers of Ukraine, while the likely wave of nationalist party election victories across Europe (Greece, Spain? France? UK? ...)  could mark the beginning of the end of the project to genocide the European peoples through mass immigration and multi-culturalism.

That's It For Now

I've written nothing for the last week or so, due to medical and other distractions. And after ten years of comment, starting at the CanadianSpectator,ca then migrating to various other less labor-intensive places, including this blog, Canspeccy on Wordpress, iLucretius and the Diary of an Inexact Scientist, I have probably said about as much as I can usefully say — if anything I have said can be said to have been useful at all. In any case, I don't expect to have time or energy to say very much more for several months, if not all eternity. Moreover, I am not sure that there is much more to be said, at least by me, on the themes with which I have been mainly concerned: namely, the transformation of Western society into a brutal, decadent, fraudulent, hypocritical, pseudo-democratic tyranny that promotes hatred for the Christian moral traditions of the West, a genocidal program for the European peoples, and a contempt for the rule of law. But to all those better informed and more articulate that I, who will surely continue to write along these lines, my best wishes.

Pretty much all the public discussion of the [Charlie Hebdo] incident centres around a series of premises that, as far as I can see, do not withstand logical scrutiny. They include:

The premise that it is some kind of "core western value" to insult other people's religious beliefs.

If the "Je suis Charlie" crowd is to be believed, my right to draw a cartoon portraying the Virgin Mary as a street whore and her son Jesus pimping her, is of paramount importance, no matter how offensive other people find it. However, it is not important to be able to:

(i) have a public discussion of the implausibilities of the official story of 9/11

(ii) have intellectually honest discussion of the events of WW2, in particularly the atrocities in which Jews were the victims, i.e. the “Holocaust”.

(iii) even mention the power or organized world Jewry (and I mean, even mention it without bothering to say whether you think it is a good or bad thing, it is simply taboo to mention it.)

(iv) have serious discussion of issues like gender, ethnicity, race outside the imposed straight jacket of "political correctness”.

Why are the above topics of discussion taboo? Apparently, it is because such speech offends people. It is hurtful to them!!!???

This is a bizarre paradox and it baffled me for the longest while. Finally, I did resolve the conundrum. Apparently, in France, and in the West generally, unrestricted free speech is only important in the case of people, who, like the ageing hipster cartoonists of Charlie Hebdo, actually have nothing to say!

Thursday, January 8, Arseney Yatsenyuk on an official visit to Berlin, told an interviewer on German TV channel ARD that the USSR had kicked off the Second World War by invading Germany.

"All of us still clearly remember the Soviet invasion of Ukraine and Germany,"

which is absurd not only because few of the present population of Germany were born 70 years ago, or can, therefore,"still clearly remember" anything about the Soviet march on Berlin, but also because the implication that Russia's invasion of Germany was an act of aggression ignores the fact that it occurred after Hitler's Germany had:

• (a) invaded Ukraine, then a part of the Soviet Union, thereby launching the largest land battles the world has ever seen;

The Road to War With Russia

Peak Prosperity, January 8 2015: For several weeks now the anti-Russian stance in the US press has quieted down. Presumably because the political leadership has moved its attention on to other things, and the media flock has followed suit.

Have you read much about Ukraine and Russia recently?

I thought not, despite the fact that there's plenty of serious action -- both there as well as related activity in the US -- going on that deserves our careful attention.

As I recently wrote, the plunging oil price is a potential catalyst for stock market turmoil and sovereign instability. Venezuela is already circling the drain, and numerous other oil exporters are in deep trouble as they foolishly expanded their national budgets and social programs to match the price of oil; something that is easy to do on the way up and devilishly tricky on the way down.

But consider the impact on Russia. From the Russian point of view, everything from their plunging ruble to bitter sanctions to the falling price of oil are the fault of the US, either directly or indirectly. Whether that is fair or not is irrelevant; that's the view of the Russians right now. So no surprise,  it doesn't dispose them towards much in the way of good-will towards the West generally, and the US specifically.

The fall in the price of oil is creating serious difficulties economically and financially for Russia. We'll get to those facets in a minute. But right now, I want to focus on the continued belligerence of the US towards Russia -- some of which is overt and some of which, you can be certain, is covert -- which could very well end up provoking a more kinetic and dangerous response than the West is prepared for.

Russia Forced To Act

Before anyone jumps in to say "Why are you defending Putin? He's a bad man", let me just say that I have been closely analyzing each move by Russia and the West since then President of Ukraine Yanukovych declined to sign the European Association Agreement back in November of 2013.
Based on the preponderance of evidence, its' clear to me that the West/US deserve the lion's share of the blame for the conflict that now rages with Ukraine and between Russia and the western world.

Here's a video at Live Leak (It was on You-Tube but soon deleted) showing a wounded police officer in Paris being shot by one gunmen responsible for the multiple murder at the office of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Note the lack of blood, and the absence of either rifle recoil or reaction in the motion of the victim's head. Strange that, and rather different from the Zapruder movie images of the shooting of President Kennedy.

[A truculent commenter (Larchmonter) over at the saker's blog states from a claimed position of expertise that at close range no blood or spatter would be expected, and further points out that the shot was to the neck not the head, which may well be the case. Still the apparent lack of weapon recoil seems surprising if the shot was not a blank. But then my expertise, other than a knowledge of basic physics, is zilch. In which connection, it is interesting to discover the vehemence of those who condemn speculation that contradicts the official narrative, e.g., some seemingly rather dumb commenters over at Craig Murray's blog. Is that because most people have an essentially binary way of thinking — something must be either black or white, yes or no — so that to ask them to entertain a hypothesis causes serious cognitive difficulty? Or is it that are there are great many shills for the mainstream narrative? In either the case, the result is not a useful or intelligent discussion, just an exchange of bald assertions and stupid insults.]

 But not to worry about the lack of blood. Someone added it later (Thanks to Aangirfan for the link:

As the Sky News reporters states at 1:02

"You can see the blood on the ground that was put there because of the blood that was shed at this spot yesterday."

So what happened to the blood that was shed at this spot yesterday. Did someone scrub it off and then add fresh blood, or what?

But the Sky News report didn't last long on U-Tube. LOL.

It's a pity, though, that the video's gone as it prevents one from checking an interesting point made by LoopDLoop on the Let's Roll Forum. What he says is:

The cars that are parked there are exactly the same. They have not been moved since the night before. You can clearly match them up. Starting from back up the street a little way there is: a large white van, followed by a small black car, followed by the large white rental van, followed by the small red car with the white sign on the side, followed by the grey car with the yellow roof, followed by a grey sedan.

Watch both videos clearly and you will agree: the same cars are parked in exactly the same locations. So, there can be no question about it: the film of the policeman being shot was certainly taken the day before.

So instead of speculating that it was shot months before, focus instead on the greater mystery: how could these same 5 or 6 cars have remained in exactly the same paid parking positions for over 24 hours in a busy Parisian street?

Suggestion: it's a controlled location.

In a post concerning Western sanctions on Russia, Mike (MIsh) Shedlock refers to an an interview with CNN, during which President Obama said that the US-led Western economic sanctions on Moscow are working, and credited the American-led effort with a downturn in Russia’s economy and the decline of its currency.

But then the President admitted that Russia has yet to pull back from its "aggressive posture" in Ukraine, which is to say Russia has not reversed its aquiescence to the request by the autonomous government of Crimea for accession to the Russian Federation, a request based on an overwhelming positive referendum vote.

In other words, the sanctions have so far entirely failed to achieve their alleged purpose.

Energy Economics and the Price of Oil

The World will never run out of oil. The OPEC countries alone, which currently deliver 30% of the World's supply, have reserves sufficient to meet 100% of world demand for more than 30 years. But new discoveries and continual improvements in recovery efficiency — currenly only around 40% — imply that OPEC will have vast oil reserves 30 years from now even if they were to triple production from today onward.

At the current price of $55–60 per barrel, OPEC is collecting a tidy profit on oil produced at a cost of $25–30 on-shore or $40–50 off-shore, which raises the question: why should prices ever return to the $100-plus range of recent years?

The Russian rouble has fallen to half its summertime value versus the US dollar, which during the same period has strengthened by around ten percent against a basket of other currencies (mainly the Euro, the Yen and the pound sterling).

Many with Russian sympathy attribute the decline to the evil machinations of the United States of Aggression. Collaspsenik, Dmitry Orlov blames Putin for being too liberal. He should, so Orlov thinks, stiff those pesky Western bankers by halting foreign debt repayment until Western sanctions on Russia are lifted.

The Saker holds that the "real problem is the lack of credibility of the Russian Central Bank and the Kremlin. Thus the key factor in the fall of the Ruble is distrust of the Russian authorities." Many commenting on the Saker's blog seem to take a similarly psychological view of the problem.

Huffington Post, May 25, 2011: In a CNN debate with Ari Fleischer, I said the United States executed Japanese war criminals for waterboarding. My point was that it is disingenuous for Bush Republicans to argue that waterboarding is not torture and thus illegal. It's kind of awkward to argue that waterboarding is not a crime when you hanged someone for doing it to our troops. My precise words were: "Our country executed Japanese soldiers who waterboarded American POWs. We executed them for the same crime we are now committing ourselves." Mr. Fleischer, ordinarily the most voluble of men, was tongue-tied. The silence, rare in cable debates, spoke volumes for the vacuity of his position.

Now Mark Hemingway of the National Review Online has asserted that I was wrong. I bookmark NRO and read it frequently. It's smart and breezy -- but on this one it got its facts wrong.

Mr. Hemingway assumed I was citing the case of Yukio Asano, who was convicted of waterboarding and other offenses and sentenced to 15 years hard labor -- not death by hanging. Mr. Hemingway made the assumption that I was referring to the Asano case because in 2006 Sen. Edward Kennedy had referred to it. (Sen. Kennedy accurately described the sentence as hard labor and not execution, by the way.)

Dumb Lefties — Left Handers, That Is

My present topic is not politics but handedness. In particular the findings of a recent investigation that left-handers are deficient in cognitive skills, have higher rates of mental and behavioral disability than normal people, and earn less.

As a lefty, this comes as a shock, brought up as I have been to the idea that we lefties are smarter than the right-handed mass. For example, among left-handed rulers there was Ramses II, whose reign is considered by many historians to mark the pinnacle of Egyptian art and culture; Alexander the Great, conqueror of the Persian Empire; Charlemagne, who invented joined-up writing, while founding an empire that set Western Europe on the march from stinking backwater to dominant global power; and, in Washington, DC, sometimes identified as the home of a "vast left-handed conspiracy," four of the last five US presidents (George Dubya Bush being the exception and obviously the dimmest of the lot).

Russia's Puny Economy and Dying Population

In August, while speaking with John Micklethwait and Edward Carr from The Economist, President Obama remarked:

Russia doesn’t make anything. Immigrants aren’t rushing to Moscow in search of opportunity. The life expectancy of the Russian male is around 60 years old. The population is shrinking.

Russia's puny economy and general decline is a common theme among those who disparage Russia. For example, in discussing the threat posed by Russia to European security, former UK Ambassador Craig Murray recently blogged:

Russia is not a great power. Its total GDP is about the same as Spain’s – and Spain is pretty knackered. Russia has even less economic clout as a basis for world domination than the UK. Russia’s economy is not diversified. It is over-dependent on raw commodity production and export.  ...  It will not be long before Poland plus the Baltic states are economically stronger than Russia.

Let's consider these claims. OK, Russia doesn't make anything except, um:

Russophobia and Nationalism, the Tinder to Ignite WW III

Ukrainians, we are to understand, hate the Russkies. Why? Well, so we are now being told, it is because Stalin, who was in fact a native of Georgia, not Russia, killed so many of them, intellectuals and peasants alike: the Holodomor, the forced labor, the Gulag, etc.

But in fact, this rather ancient history seems to have little to do with it. Rather, Russophobia in Ukraine seems to be an extremely recent phenomenon. Thus, for example, in 2010, a Pew Trust survey found a large majority of Ukrainians believed that they had been better off under the Soviet Union, i.e., under Russian domination, than under the post-Soviet "free enterprise" regime.

Plain Language, Better English

How often do you use words the meaning of which you do not know — Excruciating, for example, or abject, or that favorite of headline writers, lurid?

Yes, you may use those words appropriately, which is to say in accordance with common usage, but do you really know what they mean?

Perhaps you do, but most people, it seems, do not. The Reuters headline: Horror film "Buried" an excruciating experience, for example, nicely demonstrates the incomprehending and absurd use of a multisyllabic Latinate adjective.

Excruciating is a word derived from the Latin ex, out of or from, and cruciare, to crucify. Now to be buried alive must certainly be horrific, but few would imagine it to be closely comparable to the torment of crucifixion. To be buried alive is to be cast into darkness, crushed and suffocated. To liken live burial with crucifixion thus robs the word excruciating of useful meaning. It makes it merely another in a long list of rather meaningless intensifiers, its only merit being its multisyllablicity, to coin a term, that makes it hiss, pop and slither off the tongue.

American Imperialism Versus Russian Nationalism: The Great Role Reversal

Anyone trying to understand why international tensions are rising and why the World appears to be lurching toward a nuclear showdown between East and West needs to understand not only the difference between Russia and America in self-identification and foreign policy objectives, but also how those differences have so recently changed.

Russia, under the Bolsheviks, was a godless tyranny driven by an ambition for global conquest to be achieved by any means. Confronting Soviet Communism, America was a largely Christian nation constitutionally committed to individual liberty, democracy and human rights.

Today, Russia has restored the Orthodox Christian church (which dates back over 1000 years to the baptism of Vladimir of Kiev in 988), eschews imperial ambitions, and functions politically under a constitution that recognizes human rights, and provides for local self-government and the democratic election of President and Parliament.

Currently working feverishly, according to the CBC, in preparation to bomb Syria, while continuing a bombing mission without regard for the death of civilians in Iraq, John Baird nevertheless took time from his busy schedule to pen a diatribe for the (Toronto) Star against Vladimir Putin for his "aggression" in Ukraine (reader comments worth noting).

Russia, claims Baird, is guilty of murderous aggression in the Ukraine that has cost an estimated 4000 lives. But in fact, all that Russia has so far done is allow volunteer fighters and gifts of arms and ammunition to flow across the border with Ukraine in support of the self-defence forces of the people of Eastern Ukraine, ethnic Russians threatened with extermination by their own government.

The Myth of Western Democracy

Accountability through periodic free and fair elections is a good thing in itself, apart from any effects it may have on the quality of government or economic growth. The right to participate politically grants recognition to the moral personhood of the citizen, and exercise of that right gives that person some degree of agency over the common life of the community. The citizen may make poorly informed or bad decisions, but the exercise of political choice in and of itself is an important part of human flourishing.

The above statement must be among the most inane to have been uttered by a serious student of the political order. From a scholar of the stature of Francis Fukuyama it is simply preposterous and is explicable only as the price of publication in today's globalist world order, where the money power controls almost every avenue of public expression, including book publication.

Carroll Quigley, the historian of the New World Order, stated in a lecture on The Mythology of American Democracy:

Democracy is not the highest political value. Speeches about democracy and the democratic tradition might lead you to think this is the most perfect political system ever devised. That just isn't true. There are other political values which are more important and urgent—security, for example. And I would suggest that political stability and political responsibility are also more important.

In fact, I would define a good government as a responsible government. In every society there is a structure of power. A government is responsible when its political processes reflect that power structure, thus ensuring that the power structure will never be able to overthrow the government. If a society in fact could be ruled by a minority because that elite had power to rule and the political system reflected that situation by giving governing power to that elite, then, it seems to me, we would have a responsible government even though it was not democratic.

A Suicidal Collapse of Western Civilization?

Economic Suicide

The ongoing economic suicide of Europe is based on a faulty understanding of the climate issue by most Western politicians and on their extreme policy response, based on emotion rather than logic and science. The major European economies have reacted irrationally to contrived, unjustified fear of imagined global-warming disasters.

Perhaps I should explain that the climate has not been warming for the past 18 years -- and even if it had been warming, it would be no disaster. The EU wants to cut emissions of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, a natural plant-fertilizer, by 40% within 15 years — by 2030. This insane drive to replace energy sources from fossil fuels that release plant-friendly CO2 into the atmosphere has led to greatly increased costs of energy. As is well understood, such actions not only hurt economic growth, but they increase poverty levels and therefore threaten the social fabric of these nations.

The current effort to increase Russia’s national security and economic viability in the face of these challenges requires a critical analysis of the policies and structures emerging in the post-Soviet era.

Pillage as Privatization

The James Petras Website, November 8, 2014: Over the past quarter century, several trillion dollars worth of public property in every sector of the Russian economy was illegally transferred or violently seized by gangster-oligarchs acting through armed gangs, especially during its ‘transition to capitalism’.

From 1990 to 1999, over 6 million Russian citizens died prematurely as a result of the catastrophic collapse of the economy; life expectancy for males declined from 67 years during the Soviet era to 55 year during the Yeltsin period. Russia’s GNP declined sixty percent – a historic first for a country not at war. Following Yeltsin’s violent seizure of power and his bombing of the Russian parliament, the regime proceeded to ‘prioritize’ the privatization of the economy, selling off the energy, natural resources, banking, transport and communication sectors at one-tenth or less of their real value to well-connected cronies and foreign entities. Armed thugs, organized by emerging oligarchs “completed” the program of privatization by assaulting, murdering and threatening rivals. Hundreds of thousands of elderly pensioners were tossed out of their homes and apartments in a vicious land-grab by violent property speculators. US and European academic financial consultants “advised” rival oligarchs and government ministers on the most “efficient” market techniques for pillaging the economy, while skimming off lucrative fees and commissions –fortunes were made for the well-connected. Meanwhile, living standards collapsed, impoverishing two thirds of Russian households, suicides quadrupled and deaths from alcoholism, drug addiction, HIV and venereal diseases became rampant. Syphilis and tuberculosis reached epidemic proportions – diseases fully controlled during the Soviet era remerged with the closure of clinics and hospitals.
