I do not believe that the US government, or any of its agencies, were responsible for 9/11. It would just need too many people to be involved. Someone would have objected. For a 9/11 inside job, too many people would have been needed, Murray, says. Well, how many people does he think were needed? The official conspiracy theory says 19. The US intelligence agencies have $55 billion a year in overt funding plus whatever they make on drugs and other operations. Does Murray think these folks can bring down foreign governments but they don't have 19 people to bring down an office building?

As for "someone would have objected," that sounds like a good way for someone to get themselves killed. Maybe something Dr. David Kelly should have thought about before telling the world that Tony Blair's Iraq dossier had been "sexed up."

Then Murray has the notion that the Twin Towers couldn't have been bolted together properly. Except they happened to be the tallest buildings in the World when they went up. You think they were put up by a bunch of amateurs without supervision or proper architectural drawings?

Anyhow, it contradicts Newton's law of the conservation of momentum for the towers to have pancaked at free fall speed (and here). And Here's a competent mathematical analysis confirming that the roofline of WTC 7 fell faster than can be explained without invoking explosives to clear the path of descent.

But let's just believe it: a bunch of incompetent Arab pilots without moral conviction, armed only with box cutters, were able to outwit a trillion-dollar air defense system - and no one at the Pentagon had to resign.

As for Murrays's claim "They couldn't even keep Watergate quiet ", how could they have kept it quiet after security had apprehended the burglars? When your guys are in the nick there's no way of keeping it quiet.

And at that, I think I should leave the subject of 9/11.

I created the Canadian Spectator 2003 as a protest at the lies that launched the Iraq war, including the lies about 9/11. The war has now expanded to many countries. No protest will stop it: only American victory or defeat. Obama has decreed that 9/11 be believed, and believed it will be. Some are ignorant, some are foolish and persuaded by nonsense, some find it in their interest to fall in line. In future, I will save my breath.

From which it does not take a genius of political strategy to infer that the function of the Cambridge-trained, Masonic clown, Nick Griffin, leader of the anit-immigration, British National Party (an intel agency controlled operation, surely) is to associate every populist policy with thuggish, fascistic, racist antics so that the public dare not express their support either for the party or, more importantly, the policies that that party pretends to espouse.

The circumstances are precisely of the kind that lead to civil unrest and violence. It is in that context that the Breivic atrocities needs to be considered. As we asked before, did they constitute the the ruthless but perfectly sane first blow in a civil insurrection against a pseudo-democratic elite intent on destroying the nations of Europe through mass migration, the better to create a servile helot race under the iron grip of a global plutocratic elite?

Or is Breivic a puppet, a Manchurian candidate, set in motion by one of the hundreds of Western intel agencies. And if so, what was his mission? To turn the populace against the government? To justify an intensification in the propaganda of political correctness that labels opposition to national genocide "racism"? To justify further harsh security measures to repress the population?

Or is there a division in the elite behind the Western pseudodemocracies? Is this a psyop intended to set off a chain reaction that will force a change European policy on mass migration?

Why Economics Is Bunk and What That Means for the Economy

Steve Keen is a professor or economics.

Economics, he say, is bunk.

Why?

Because the textbook models of the economy ignore the role of the financial sector in credit creation.

Why do the textbooks ignore private sector credit creation?

Because, they maintain that what banks lend, someone else must first save and deposit with the bank. Thus the creation of a loan has no net effect on aggregate demand: my debt-fueled expenditure is balanced by your thrift-driven saving.

On the contrary, says Keen, your borrowed dollar is either deposited in your bank account or, when you spend it, in someone else's account. That new deposit provides the basis for another loan, which result in another new deposit, and so on ad infinitum. Thus, in the absence of adequate financial sector regulation, the private banking system has the potential for causing unlimited growth in credit and, hence, demand.

It is credit creation, largely by private institutions, says Keen, that drives economic expansion.

In a healthy economy, privately created credit is employed mainly in productive investment, for example, in factories, machinery, software, or R and D, all of which produce income with which to service the debt and eventually pay off the principal.

But if credit expansion is too rapid, money is diverted to speculation, resulting in bubbles of various kinds, for example the tech sector stock market bubble during the 90's, the US housing boom until 2006, and the subsequent bubble in commodities, including gold and silver.

Once the economy enters this Ponzi stage, it is only a matter of time before the price of tulip bulbs, shares in the South Sea Company, or whatever reach absurd heights, falter and then collapse.

As asset prices slump and paper profits turn to losses, people seek to cut their liabilities by reducing debt. The resultant credit contraction accelerates collapse of the bubbles and contraction in the real economy as people divert income from consumption and real investment to debt repayment.

Based on this theory, where are we now?

On the evidence of the adjacent chart, in the worst of all possible world's.

Before the Great Depression US private debt equalled about 150% of GDP, growing to about 230% after the stock market crash of '29, as the economy contracted faster than debts were repayed.

Thereafter, US private debt fell almost linearly for more than a decade, i.e., throughout the Great Depression, and throughout the war years, reaching a low of less than 50% of GDP in 1945.

Since 1945, U.S. debt to GDP ratio has grown almost continuously, passing the 1930's peak early in the 2000's and in a near vertical, Greenspan-fueled ascent, peaking at 300% in 2009, falling thereafter to around 265% of GDP.

There is no prospect, Keen believes, in reinflating the credit bubble now. What we should expect, so he predicts, is a long-continued contraction in credit, and stagnation or contraction in the real economy.

How long before the misery is over for America and most of the other western economies, which followed the American lead in financial deregulation and Ponzi economics?

About 15 years, Keen suggests.

In this, I am slightly more optimistic, inasmuch as I believe that the debts will in large part be inflated away through depreciation of both the US dollar and the Euro against the currencies of the low-wage Asian economies, particularly of India and China.

As discussed here, I believe we will see unending money printing, aka quantitative easing, in the US and elsewhere, which will drive down real wages in the Western world, thus restoring some competitiveness with the low-wage economies.

If we assume that half the debt is sloughed off through inflation, then it seems possible that we will see a decent revival in Western economies by the middle of the present decade.

By that time, our standard of living will have been very much reduced. But at least we will see a return to something like full employment.

I was raised in the 50's in the Southwest of England, about the whitest part of what was then a an almost entirely white country, yet I grew up with a prejudice about black Americans. My view was acquired subliminally through my father, a sensitive man, even hyper-sensitive, who campaigned vigorously for the anti-war movement during the 1930's, but who felt compelled, once war was declared, to serve in the armed forces.

Altogether, he must have been an odd recruit. Old enough to be called uncle by most of the fellows, at heart still a pacifist, and taking with him on induction into the RAF copies of David Henry Thoreau's Walden and Mark Twain's Huck Finn.

In due course, I tried Thoreau, who I found vaguely uplifting but too dull to finish. Twain, however, became my lifelong companion, who instilled in me a warm regard for black Americans from Huck's companion, the nigger Jim, to Twain's friend, Booker T. Washington, a man who played an important role in providing America's newly liberated slaves the opportunity of self advancement through education.

To that list, with other names accumulated over the years, I have added Elizabeth Wright, whose blog I found only recently. Her calmly expressed but definite views I find both eminently sensible and nicely expressed. Elizabeth Wright is a conservative who combines a pride in her own race with a love of, and concern about, the greater American society in which she lives.

Today, Elizabeth Wright is awaiting a place in a cancer hospice. I offer her my kindest good wishes during this difficult time.

Medically Induced Mental Illness

According to the US National Institute for Mental Health, at any one time, approximately 5% of Americans suffer from a serious mental illness, while Mental Health America estimates that 54 million Americans suffer from some form of mental disorder in a given year. Thus, during their lifetime, a very large proportion and perhaps a majority of Americans suffer some form of mental illness. This is a startling realization and suggests that in America, and most likely other Western nations also, mental illness is now epidemic.

To the question "how come?", a brilliant investigative journalist, Robert Whittacker offers an answer, which is proving to be surprisingly uncontroversial. American's are being driven mad by the psychotropic drugs they consume to combat what are often, at least initiallly, rather trivial so-called mental disorders such as anxiety, female sexual dysfunction, minor depression, etc. Whittacker recounts his investigation in the book The Anatomy of an Epidemic.

I will not review the book, since it has been very widely reviewed elsewhere. Amazon.com currently offers 89 reader reviews, of which 72 give the book a five-star rating. And there is a superb review by Marcia Angell in the New York Review of Books, which outlines Whittacker's basic thesis; namely, that psychotropic drugs do not, as the psychiatric community and drug industry have long maintained, correct any known chemical imbalance in the brain, but rather, they create a chemical imbalance that makes drug withdrawal extremely difficult. Moreover, the benefits of psychotropic drugs are often transient, or even non-existent, purported evidence to the contrary, which is necessary for drug certification, often being the result of inappropriate trial design, selective publication of results and the not infrequent resort to outright fraud.

But not only may psychotropic drugs give no long-term benefit, they may even prolong illness. Whereas, before the age of antipsychotic medication, most schizophrenics recovered from their first bout of illness within several years, leading thereafter, healthy and productive lives without relapse, in the age of universal medication, the prognosis for schizophrenics is poor.

Moreover, there is evidence that antidepressants and stimulants can induce bipolar disorder, which leads to additional medication, including use of anti-convulsants and antipsychotics, with consequent health complications that may shorten life by 15 to 25 years.

Whittaker's book should be read by anyone with a serious interest in mental health issues, as presumably are most Americans, ravaged as they are by an epidemic of madness.

Not everyone, understandably, agrees with Whittacker's conclusions. Many who are dependent on psychotropic drugs believe that these chemicals improve their lives, and in some cases, they are surely right. Moreover, it appears to be the case that for many suffering an acute mental illness, chemical sedation is a prerequisite of psychotherapy, exercise therapy or other non-chemical treatments to which the patient would otherwise be wholly unamenable. Nevertheless, the evidence suggests that we are witnessing an epidemic of psychotropic drug poisoning that is both damaging and shortening the lives of tens of millions.

In seeking to understand the atrocity that the self-declared anti-Muslim, Norwegian crusader Anders Breivik claims to have carried out single-handedly, there seem to be three possible interpretations.

It was:

(a) a psyop to delegitimize opposition to mass immigration to Europe;

(b) the work of madman;

(c) the first shot in a European civil war between patriotic nationalists, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, the globalist plutocratic elite and its political and bureaucratic creatures that seek to destroy the European nations as racial, religious and cultural entities.

(d) something else.

At first sight, a psyop may seem the most probable explanation. But then consider the circumstances:

In 2009, the Telegraph reported:

...Only 3.2 per cent of Spain’s population was foreign-born in 1998. In 2007 it was 13.4 per cent. Europe’s Muslim population has more than doubled in the past 30 years and will have doubled again by 2015. In Brussels, the top seven baby boys’ names recently were Mohamed, Adam, Rayan, Ayoub, Mehdi, Amine and Hamza.

Which makes possibility (c) seem entirely possible, i.e., that Breivik is perfectly sane and that he is exactly what he says he is, a crusader fighting Muslim settlement which threatens the extinction of both Christianity in Europe and the European peoples, whose best hope of posterity, it would appear, is to become a Muslim and marry an immigrant.

If (c) is the case, then what will be the consequences?

Will we see a long-running series of such terrorist acts directed at the political elite and its foot soldiers (as in this case)? And if so, what will be the political fall out? Will it create a backlash that strengthens the forces of political correctness leading to the further repression of opposition to the destruction of the European nations? Or will people in large numbers, in particular members of the political class and the bureaucracy that undertake the work of the elite, begin to rethink their loyalties?

What is ominous about this incident, for the elite, is that the attacks were directed not aimlessly at ordinary people going about their daily lives -- as in the case of 9/11 or 7/7, but at the office of the Prime Minister and at a gathering of left wing political activists.

This is a mark of real anti-state terrorism, not state sponsored false flag terrorism: the kind of terrorism that forced Britain to negotiate with the IRA after the Queen's cousin, Lord Louis Mountbatten, and Margaret Thatcher's Northern Ireland Minister, Airey Neave, had been murdered, a Royal Marine Commando band had been bombed, Margaret Thatcher had escaped death in the Brighton bombing by sheer chance, and the City of London banking district had been blown up twice.

Yet as a serious assault on the elite, Breivik's action left something to be desired. No one important was killed, injured or even greatly inconvenienced, which is what one would expect of a well choreographed psyop, not a well conducted act of anti-state terrorism.

So unless Norway's police come up with convincing evidence that Breivik acted either alone or with other genuine anti-state elements, a definite conclusion may be difficult to reach.

That the culprit is alive and in custody, is one feature of the case suggesting that Breivik acted independently. For where the evidence of state responsibility has been most convincing, what appear to have been designated patsies, wiped themselves out during the commission of the crime (e.g., 9/11 and 7/7) or were wiped out shortly afterwards (e.g., Lee Harvey Oswald).

Breivik, 9/11 and the Lib-Left Program for the Destruction of the European Nations

Craig Murray condemns Rupert Murdoch for a Sun headline calling the Breivik atrocity "Norway's 9/11."

According to one comment:

The Sun’s headline cleverly, but to me very obviously, stokes anti-Muslim feelings by prematurely and at high volume, attributing the recent atrocity to ‘Al Qaeda’, associating it immediately with ’9/11′, etc.

But that's not the only way to interpret the Sun's headline (whatever may be implied by the text below the headline, which I have not seen). According to his Manifesto, which has the image of a Crusader's cross for a frontispiece, Breivik is violently anti-Muslim.

so the only valid analogy between 9/11 and the Norway atrocities must be based on the assumption that both were false flag government operations designed to control public opinion.

The Lib-left will, of course, furiously deny this, because Breivik's action will otherwise serve as a devastating blow against those (at least two-thirds of the indigenous European population) who oppose the ongoing genocide of the European peoples through mass immigration.

Critically, Breivik's action reinforces the vile and ridiculous contention of the statist lib-left and its corporate media supporters, Murdoch among the most prominent, that those who oppose the destruction of their own race, culture and national identity are necessarily violence-prone, far right wing maniacs.

If Breivik acted alone, he is a madman with a warped genius of the highest order. If his action was a SCAD, Europe is surely headed for a very dark age of tyranny.

Breivik's Manifesto

[It is reported that parts of this manifesto "were taken almost word for word from the writings of "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski, who is serving a life sentence in federal prison in Colorado for mail bombs that killed three people and injured 23 others across the U.S. from the 1970s to the 1990s.

Ideology takes an intellectual system, a product of one or more philosophers, and says, “This system must be true.” Inevitably, reality ends up contradicting the system, usually on a growing number of points. But the ideology, by its nature, cannot adjust to reality; to do so would be to abandon the system.

Therefore, reality must be suppressed. If the ideology has power, it uses its power to undertake this suppression. It forbids writing or speaking certain facts. Its goal is to prevent not only expression of thoughts that contradict what “must be true,” but thinking such thoughts. In the end, the result is inevitably the concentration camp, the gulag and the grave.

But what happens today to Europeans who suggest that there are differences among ethnic groups, or that the traditional social roles of men and women reflect their different natures, or that homosexuality is morally wrong? If they are public figures, they must grovel in the dirt in endless, canting apologies. If they are university students, they face star chamber courts and possible expulsion. If they are employees of private corporations, they may face loss of their jobs. What was their crime? Contradicting the new EUSSR ideology of “Political Correctness.”

But what exactly is “Political Correctness?” Marxists have used the term for at least 80 years, as a broad synonym for “the General Line of the Party.” It could be said that Political Correctness is the General Line of the Establishment in Western European countries today; certainly, no one who dares contradict it can be a member of that Establishment. But that still does not tell us what it really is.

We must seek to answer that question. The only way any ideology can be understood, is by looking at its historical origins, its method of analysis and several key components, including its place in higher education and its ties with the Feminist movement.

If we expect to prevail and restore our countries to full freedom of thought and expression, we need to know our enemy. We need to understand what Political Correctness really is. As you will soon see, if we can expose the true origins and nature of Political Correctness, we will have taken a giant step toward its overthrow. ...

How liberals learned to love genocide

Reflecting on the evolution of white liberalism, Jew Among You quotes Upton Close, author of The Revolt of Asia (1927) on the nature of white racism:

these cultural elements being pride of culture, of religion, of superior organizational efficiency and of achievements in science.

Since 1927, much has changed. Within the Euro-American world, few can claim to be unacquainted with people of other races. What's more, most admit to liking them well enough. Asian girls are pretty, Asian males are smart, hard-working and loyal. Africans males may be prone to violence, but evidently they have an attraction for white women. And many African women take menial minimum-wage jobs that have little appeal for whites.

Pride of culture is not an issue when "the culture" means pop entertainment, and when the study of Western civilization, its literature, history and philosophy, is considered by liberal opinion tantamount to racism.

Pride of religion is difficult to maintain when Oxford professors openly broadcast their contempt for Christianity, and when the media insure that the Catholic Church is identified in the public mind with little other than paedophilia.

Pride in superior organizational efficiency is unsustainable in the wake of the collapse of virtually the entire US financial industry, the simultaneous bankruptcy of Chrysler and General Motors, and the inability of the United States and Nato combined to crush the Taliban, a third-world rag-tag army of religious fanatics, after ten years of bombardment with almost every weapon in the Western arsenal.

Europeans can take pride in the scientific achievements of their race, but such pride is no basis for a sense of innate superiority. The Chinese can do math, the Indians have a space program, and the Iranians can build nukes -- so they say.

Understandably, therefore, the average white person, under a barrage of "anti-racist" propaganda and subject to laws of political correctness that privilege immigrants and minorities at the expense of the declining and demoralized majority, applaud racial diversity.

There is, however, one thing about this that is utterly illogical. Those who promote "diversity," insist also on integration, which means the elimination of diversity and the creation of a new mongrel race. True, a uniformly pigmented, Euro-American race will not emerge for several generations. But several generations is but an instant in evolutionary or even historical time.

Thus, what the advocates of diversity are promoting is the exact opposite of diversity: it is the destruction of diversity through homogenization. A policy of the most doubtful wisdom, with profound consequences that have never been publicly discussed and of which few advocates of "diversity" have the slightest inkling.

For example, one consequence of the Liberal "diversity" agenda is that the British race, a largely Celtic people that has existed throughout the nine thousand years since the end of the last ice age, will cease to exist within a generation. There will be no going back. Miscegenation is easy, but entropy only increases. Likewise, the other ancient nations of Europe, the Italians, the French, the Dutch the Poles and many others will be gone before this century's end. And with them will be gone the Christian tradition and the Western civilization to which Christendom gave rise.

Already a majority of children in many urban areas of Britain are born to foreign-born mothers. Already some cities have a majority of foreign born inhabitants. As the majority British-born population ages, it will be progressively replaced by the more fertile and expanding immigrant population, although whether there will then emerge a new, homogeneous mongrel race, or a community of racially, culturally and religiously divided communities, remains to be seen.

The Pavlovian liberal response is to hoot racism at those who oppose this genocide. But there is no racism in seeking to preserve diversity, nor any presumption of racial superiority in seeking to protect the British, or any other race from destruction.

As an expatatriate, I am struck on visiting England, by what a strange lot the Brits really are: often ill-educated, ill-spoken and ill-mannered; less attractive, it sometimes seems, than the immigrants among whom they are compelled to live and by whom they are often economically marginalized.

But they are unique. They are the descendants of people who hunted and gathered on those British shores nine thousand years ago. If they are often crass and ignorant, they are also capable of genius. As the Asian nations resume their dominant position in the World, they it will be who, increasingly, produce the World's leading innovators, artists and geniuses of science, engineering and social organization. But the Brits, so long as they survive as a distinct people, will always possess those divine gifts that produced a Shakespeare, a Newton, a Darwin, a Clerk Maxwell, and a Turing.

Libya's skies turn black as desperate dictator blows up oil pipes and turns his tanks on civilians, says the Daily Mail.

Colonel Gaddafi's forces today blasted an oil terminal to smithereens as Libya's bloody civil war entered its blackest day.

Rebels retaliated by firing back with rockets as a fireball exploded from one of the oil tanks and the sky above the Es Sider terminal, in the east of the country, filled with hideous smoke. ...

Forces loyal to the Libyan dictator poured into the city of Zawiyah in a desperate bid to oust the hardcore band of protesters and army defectors who have taken control.

But then if we are to understand that rebels firing rockets are mere "protesters," one has to question the objectivity of the entire report.

According to Libya's Prosecutor General Mohammed al-Mahjoubi

NATO airstrikes have killed more than 1,100 civilians and injured thousands of others since the end of March.

So who to believe? Is Gaddafi deliberately killing his own innocent civilian population, or is it Nato's thousands of bombing missions against Libyan targets in and around Tripoli that are killing Libyan civilians?

Leaders in a democracy must be perpetually at work to maintain their credibility.

The effort takes many forms. There are legitimate appeals to reason and interest through the media, in the legislature or on the campaign trail.

In addition, there can be many other more or less illegitimate forms of persuasion.

Public relations activities that skew the news.

Sheer propaganda: fireworks, flags, fliers and government indoctrination by advertising or perversion of the educational system.

Destruction of opponents by entrapment or assassination.

And now, cognitive infiltration, the invention of Cass Sunstein, who heads President Obama's White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.

Cognitive infiltration is a proposed government response to the spread of theories that question the integrity of the government, i.e., conspiracy theories. To these, Sunstein believes

the best response is cognitive infiltration by Government agents of groups (and their allies) attached to such ideas. [Such agents] might enter chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine percolating conspiracy theories by raising doubts about their factual premises, causal logic or implications for political action.

Of particular concern to Sunstein, apparently, is the need to undermine groups who question the official 9/11 conspiracy theory whereby 19 Arabs with box cutters are said to have outwitted America's multi-trillion-dollar air defense system, blown-up part of the Pentagon -- conveniently killing dozens of government accountants trying to figure out where several $trillion in unaccounted Defense Department funds had gone -- destroyed the CIA's New York offices in Building 7 of the World Trade Center, which was not hit by a hijacked aircraft, and conveniently demolished WTC 1 and 2, obsolete asbestos-filled office towers, extremely well insured against terrorist attack only weeks before their destruction.

Actually, there's nothing really new in Sunstein's approach. Democratic governments have rarely felt constrained in the means they employ to control public opinion, and they have never felt constrained in time of war.

Thus, for example, during WW1, President Wilson established the Committee for Public information under the direction of former journalist, George Creel. The Creel "Commission" was:

... created to influence U.S. public opinion regarding American participation in World War I. Over just 28 months, from April 13, 1917, to August 21, 1919, it used every medium available to create enthusiasm for the war effort ...

The committee used newsprint, posters, radio, telegraph, cable and movies to broadcast its message. It recruited about 75,000 "Four Minute Men," volunteers who spoke about the war at social events for an ideal length of four minutes, considering that the average human attention span was judged at the time to be four minutes. They covered the draft, rationing, war bond drives, victory gardens and why America was fighting. It was estimated that by the end of the war, they had made more than 7.5 million speeches to 314 million people ... (Wikipedia)

It is not known publicly to what extent, if at all, Cass Sunstein has implemented an electronic-age version of such a propaganda exercise, but it is hard to believe that an equivalent of the Creel Commission is not in operation, infiltrating discussion in countless thousands of Internet forums, at public meetings and in the editorial offices of newspapers and magazines.

An obvious strategy to follow in this kind campaign to subvert the democratic process is to create and promote stupid conspiracy theorists who point only to bogus evidence, employ dopey arguments and encourage those who are dopey by natural inclination to overwhelm the debate with false leads, looney ideas, illogical arguments and utter nonsense, thus discouraging participation in the debate by all sensible people.

Likely Sunstein Commission conspiracy theorists constantly raise their heads, from those who attribute the destruction of the Twin Towers to space-based lasers, or micro-nukes, to the "Israel did it crowd" and those who believe the world is ruled by shape-shifting alien reptiles.

Fortunately, there remains a group of dedicated conspiraloons, committed to the application of logic and the pursuit of real evidence who take the time to deconstruct some of the obviously intellectually incompetent, if not entirely fake, 9/11 conspiracy theorists.

Here Stefz tackles one, by the name of Charles Veitch, whoever he may be, while Gyges takes on a nutter who seems to have made his conspiracy theorist debut onboard a space ship.

So long as such genuine, passionate and intelligent conspiraloonacy thrives, democracy will live.

The truth about this and all financial news was revealed to me when I was a kid, and a friend, the son of the CEO of a well-known multinational corporation, explained to me that the only reason any sensible person attends a cocktail party is to hype stocks they intend to sell in the morning and trash stocks they want to buy in the morning.

That, chiefly, is the function of the financial news. Plus it fills the space between the ads on the business pages of the newspaper and creates market volatility, which drives up market volumes, which keeps the brokers in funds.

The truth about the US Government's credit status is that it cannot default on its debts as long as they are denominated in US dollars, because the US Government, with the collaboration of the Fed, prints its own money. That means US Government debt will always be redeemed at full face value, either with crisp newly printed US dollars, or with funds raised by rolling over the debt through the issue of new bonds.

But what about the "debt ceiling?"

In theory, Congress has the power to deny the US Government the freedom to print money, aka, quantitatively ease. But this they will never do, unless they wish to create a financial crisis, which will help fill the space between the ads on the business pages of the newspaper, and creates market volatility, which -- oh, but I said that before.

Of course there are folks who don't like to see the US print money, but so what?

The Chinese see that printing dollars lowers the value of those already printed, of which the Bank of China owns a trillion or more. But again, so what?

If the Chinese don't like seeing the value of their dollars depreciated, they know what to do: spend 'em now, which of course would be great for the US economy.

Let's see, how could America's foreign creditors, who own about four-and-a-half trillion dollars worth of Treasury debt instruments, spend their dollars?

I'd suggest the stock market. At current prices they could pick up America's top 20 corporations, including Exxon, Apple, Microsoft, Chevron, GE, IBM, Berkshire Hathaway, etc.

Or they might consider farm land. The US has about a billion acres, so at an average of $4500 per acre, America's foreign creditors could pick up the entire cultivable portion of the United States.

But they might prefer urban real estate, in which case they might pick-up all of the 14 million empty houses in the US (estimated value around $2 trillion), or some other component of America's $20 trillion worth of commercial and residential real estate.

A serious attempt by America's foreign creditors to do any of the above  would obviously have a variety of interesting repercussions.

With all that cash flowing into circulation, the US economy would experience an explosive boom.

Stocks would zoom: Dow 35,000 here we come.

Real estate would rebound. Crap mortgage bonds would soon be fully valued. Bail-out funds loaned by the Fed to banks would be repaid.

Inflation would roar as happy home-owners and stockholders once again enjoyed the wealth effect.

The dollar would fall, curbing imports, boosting exports.

Unemployment would fall. Government welfare expenditures would fall. Government revenues would rise. Deficits would be eliminated and the Fed would engage in repeated action to slow the boom.

Yes, as long as the US remains mired in the recession, raising the debt ceiling and printing more money is the only way to go. For those with US dollars, the best bet is to invest them in real assets (stocks, land, oil, etc.) or spend them now, which is good not only for those who spend but for the US economy too.
